We are going camping on the rollinsville/tolland side of kingston peak. we are not camping at a developed campsite area so there is no bathrooms and no water. there are a few offshoot FSR roads that go to mammoth gulch and a few other areas and we will be camping where these roads leave the kingston peak/apex trail. The area is below tree line and there are currently no firebans within roosevelt national forest. there are "established fire pits" there though. We are leaving from arvada before 6PM and are taking HWY 72 to rollinsville. and should get to where we are setting up by about 7:30ish on friday night. camp and socialize on friday night as people arrive and ya. saturday there is a scheduled run on kingston peak run on saturday from the alice side of the trail. we will either mess around on surrounding trails ( jenny creek is minutes away) or along apex and stuff until the group passes and then go and run kingston peak. we will either come back up thru yankee doodle hill ( if i remember right. you pick it up along fall river road on the east side of it.... someone can pipe in) or kingston backwards and depending on the weather camp saturday night as well or head home.
well that is what i know right now.... really on saturday we are just kinda kicking back and playing it by ear. i just want to get out of town and play around in the mountains. the more people the come the more company to have fun with

Hey Una, I don;t think you and rich are familiar with what offshoots off of apex road. The best camping is in Mamoth Basin a FS road that offshoots Apex road about 1.5 miles South of Tolland and that FS road goes right (West). All the campsites on Apex will be taken so we will need to give btter directions to those coming, maybe tell them to look for a signs and what not because I promise ALL camping on Apex road will be booked by the time you gfet ther - thus the reason i suggest you do something off of Mamoth Bason FS road (need that number). I'll find it - hold on...

Ok here is more pertatnent dirt Una. PLEASE repost on the other forums. Folks need to head up to Rollinsville. Go ahead and air down once ya get on Rollins Pass Road heading west. (Dirt Road - lots o' wash board). About 4-5 miles later You'll come to a small town called Tolland (Um it is like 4 houses and a schoolhouse. DO NOT SPEED here. You'll prolly see a cop 4x4 parked in a driveway. About 200 yards pass the "town" of Tolland there will be a fork in the road. Take a left heading SW up County Road 4N aka #176 aka Apex Road. (Same road - I know 3 names!!) About 1.5 miles up the road will come to a point where you will see alot of camp sites on the right (All should be taken) But around this spot will be a branch off to County Road 4G which is a continuation of #176. This road goes in above the old Mamoth Gulch Reservoir. We should be able to find a good group spot back in there and we will park Rich's or Troy's yota and put a sign designating the camp site.
Now to make things confusing: at about the turn off to Mamoth Gulch road there is one for # 183. That goes to the bottom of the old reservoir and it is NOT the right ROAD!
If #176 (AKA 4N) turns into Apex Road #353 you've gone too far. (#353) actually becomes Kingston Peak road the trail we are running saturday).
Wish directions could be more clear but we will put up signs with something DAYGLO and it will say CoTTORA somewhere. LOL
Hope that helps! -Mols
