Feather River Canyon (NorCal) March 25-26

I'm heading to Feather River Canyon for a little wheeling, some camping, and some railfanning! Let me know if you're interested! I'll be there Friday and Saturday but you're welcome to stay longer.

Sounds good. I think I'll check it out this weekend, take pictures, and mark anything cool on the GPS.

Fun trip and a very cool area. 3 rigs, 6 people. Pictures here.

My buddy is planning a week long trip up there to explore some more.

Friday
Ryan and Myself in my 4Runner departed Walnut Creek at 7:15am.
Arrived in Oreville at 10:30am.
Wheeled all day.
Returned to camp.
Built a fire.... and an oven while waiting for the other rigs to come. (We brought chicken and I didn't have my skillet with me so my friend built an oven. That was some of the best chicken I've ever had..... no really, it was.)

Saturday

Other vehicle arrived at 1:00am.
Watched some trains run through the tunnel.
Stopped in Quincy for Lunch and gas.
Played in the snow.
Explored some more forest service roads.
Left for home around 4pm.
Found a "Pavement Ends Sign" on a levee road.... turned into a dirt levee road....
Stopped in Antioch to visit with a friend.
Watched some trains run a bridge in Martinez.
Sleep at 3:00am.

We all got stuck in the snow once. We had a shovel and chains, but didn't end up using them.

Wish I was there

Nice Photos. I really feel home sick now. My Father grew up near there. The family still has property Greaeagle. Love that area.

You guys are welcome to join us which ever days you can!

Tofer - I have to swing by Sonoma State to pick up my girlfriend before I head up there.

gapguy - FYI: We're going to leave to head home around 7pm on Sunday.

I'll post GPS coordinates in a few minutes with a map of where to meet up.

Ok, Camp is here: N39 46.153 W121 27.523. These coordinates will get you within 0.2 miles from the highway.

DeLorme Nor Cal Atlas Page 68 - B3.

Map:

The blue line is the approximate place the trail starts. There is a turn-out on HWY 70 - There is a high voltage power pole and two trails. The right one has a chain across it, the left (hidden behind the power pole burm) is the trail you're looking for.

Hey Steve, I guess I'll chime in here. Im thinking that i will probably go. I have a buddy with an Xterra that wanted to go but I think he might just ride with me. Im definitely in if I can get my clutch in. Maybe we could meet up somewhere and I will follow?
