Looking for a bit of a challenge, well as much as GWNF can offer? Try the State Line run.

 

I just sent them an e-mail to find out a little more about the place. Mostly about when the showers and electric will be complete, can we reserve a block of sites, and how many tents/campers can we put on each site.

Maybe this campground will turn out to be something similar to Crawfords.

 

I did see on that website that Oct 15-17 is not a good time to go b/c of an atv ride that weekend. Of course, there are so many atv's there that it was a little annoying at sometimes when Chris and I went.

Chris, are there a lot more trails that the ATV's stay away from that are comparable to Trails 4,5,6, and 8 at Tellico? It says they have 800 miles of trails, have you been on everything there? And stuff like Rattlerock and coming up that powerline that you showed me don't count b/c those trails are ridiculous!

 

Well, that weekend would definitely would be out for us, because there will be so many ATV's it will make you sick! We need to avoid that weekend for sure.

Just heard back from the Windrock campground and it looks like no showers and electricity until spring. Gotta run, I'll give more info tonight.

 

Here is the response I got from the new campground at Windrock:

Are the electrical connections complete? Not started yet. Still waiting on
approval for septic system from the state before we can start elect. We do
allow generator use.

If so, how many sites have electrical and water hookups? Have 28 sites with
water hook ups, also 2 community faucets for tent areas.
If not, when will the electrical connections be complete? No determined
yet.

When will the showers be complete? Probably not till spring at the rate we
are going. We have an outdoor shower but it is cold water only.

Can there be pop up campers and tents on the same site as long as everyone
pays for each and not just paying as it was one site? We have some campers
set up tents at RV/camper sites. We charge by the tent/Rv and not by the
site. We are trying to keep things "rustic" and not have such
"commercialized" sites.

How many campsites will be in the campground total? As of now, we have 28
rv/camper sites and 17 tent sites.

Can a block of campsites be reserved together to ensure that our group is
all together? We just need to know how many campers/tents/etc.

Are campfires allowed at the campground? We have firerings and we USUALLY
have firewood.

 

Alright guys, Windrock is a good place that most of us have not been, but apparently the camping is not good. So, should we stick with it, or go elsewhere? How far does anyone want to drive-Paragon is about 900 miles for me.

How about Uwharrie-who's been there? Camping?

Anyone going on the 4x4Wire Fall Colors Run to GWNF?

I'm itching to plan a trip guys-work is long and hot right now-I need a get away to look forward to!

Hey, if I spelled it wrong, sorry, but I'd prefer either going there or back to Tellico, at least once I have a ride to take wheeling, but I'm working on that!

Alright, since Windrock has basically no campground, I'm inclined to agree with Wabbit here-Uwharrie or Tellico?

Chris, what about a spring ride at Windrock, when the campground is finished?

 

I vote we give Uwharrie a try and set it up where we can all camp together and on a weekend where there ain't like the "85th annual Jeep Idiot Trail Ride at Uwharrie" with 5000 jeepers there.

Let's make it in mid to late October as well, so I can have something to wheel!

 

I say either Oct 22-24 or Oct 29-31 or Nov 5-7. Yes, we need to all camp together.

 

So check it out w/ Uwharrie and what is going on, pick a date, and let's get it going on a new thread!

 

I won't be able to do the w/e of the 31st, but I'm game on either of the other two weekends. I'd like to do Tellico again. Crawfords was nice and there's plenty of trails that we haven't hit there yet.

 

Most of the trails that we have not hit at Tellico yet aren't really passable by our vehicles unless serious body damage or breakage is your game.

 

Get a damn vehicle!

 

You know the NC guys say Uwharrie doesn't have much to offer. Its fun for the locals cause they get to play on the rocks, but it doesn't have any real challenges.

You know what else, I just thought of, camping in late october, early november = sleeping in cold .....

 

Looks like Nov 5-7 at Tellico, as I got a FREE beach trip with work on Oct 22-24 and dirt poser can't go the next weekend, so make it the November one.

Shazam, you wuss, ever heard of an insulated sleeping, besides, those goats should keep your warm!

Pros and cons of each place: (I have only been to Tellico and Windrock, so everything else is what I have gathered from other Yotatech people), this is also geared mostly to the people that came to SE4RJ and Yotajam at Tellico

Tellico-pros: great camping, great trails
cons: already been there twice this year and have done all the trails possible with standard vehicles


Windrock-pros: endless trails, something new for most of us
cons: apparently no good camping-I'm checking around


Uwharrie-pros: supposedly good camping, most of us have not been there
cons: supposedly all easy trails


GWNF-pros: something different for most of us
cons: 650 miles for me, supposedly easy trails, don't know about camping


Paragon-pros: something different for most of us, tons of trails, camping?
cons: 900 miles for me


Rausch creek-don't know much about this one

Not a whole lot of info on that website, but it's real close to Windrock. Might be a good summer alternative too b/c it's at 3,300' elevation.
