Right now it's not looking good for me to be able to make it there tonight.

I just got off the line with Ric. He made it in town awhile ago and we're still on for this evening. See you at 7.

Just got home, but I had a blast guys! Too bad about 355 Challenge, maybe we can play some pong later to make up for it. Have fun on the trails this weekend!

Guys,

Had a great time tonight, good to meet some new faces (at least to me) and talk some truck stuff over a good dinner. Sorry we couldn't stay for some games but it sounds like you all had fun. Hope to see you out on trail Saturday unless a supercharger wants to nest in my engine compartment!

Later.

Thanks to everyone who came out. It's always good to meet up with locals, and not to mention giving folks a warm Colorado welcome as well.

Scott and Trina (correct?), sorry I didn't get to say goodbye before I left. I hadn't seen you inside for awhile and thought you had left, but then saw your pickup outside. We'll look forward to this weekend. Very nice meeting the two of you.

After speaking with Ric tonight, they are planning to stay based at their hotel in Lakewood (285 and ~Wadsworth) this weekend and will be making day runs with us on Saturday and Sunday. I'm still planning on camping somewhere Saturday night and possibly Friday night. What do the rest of you think? We could meet at/near their hotel on early Saturday morning and head out, or we could still camp somewhere Friday night and meet them some place in the morning(s). I will finalize the trail selection in the next two days, most of which have been decided upon. For a preview, read this thread.

Here's the group shot:

Thumbs up

Hey all,
Trina & I had a really great :bounce2: time meeting everyone and checking out all the nice rigs. Darren, Trina & I are also sorry we did not get to say goodbye before you left. As far as the Trails/Camping go I think we would like to meet at/near Ric & Ediths hotel on early Saturday morning and head out, and could possibly camp somewhere Saturday night, but we are also open for what everyone else decides on.

Later,
Scott & Trina

Arch and I also had a great time! It was nice to see the other rigs and have a good dinner with good conversation. I also like the Sat morning idea so we can all go as a group. It also gives Fri as a prep day.

Guys,

We live out near where Ric & Edith are staying, so I could make it a day trip (Leslie has to work that day. Just let me know what the schedule is and I'll see if I can make the trip. How far out is the run from Lakewood?

Sounds good guys. Let's plan on meeting at ~7:30 on Saturday over at the hotel. I think Ric said it is the Residence Inn. I'll get the location from Ric when he calls me on Thursday evening, unless any of you happen to know.

Rich, the trails are just east of Breckenridge.

I think we'll do them in the same order as Alan and I did this past weekend:

We'll start out by going to the foot of Kenosha Pass on this side and take Webster Pass. Those who want, could do Red Cone I suppose and meet the rest on the Webster summit. I think I'm going to have to pass on Red Cone for now! Soon enough though, I think. Apparently, it's easier than it used to be.

From Webster, we'll go up Radical Hill and drop down Deer Creek Road to Montezuma.

We'll then go up the Santa Fe Peak Trail which is an up and back route.

Drop back into Montezuma and take Glacier Ridge

Travel down the Middle Fork of the Swan and decend SOB Hill (not making that up!)

We'll take the Missouri Gulch Road from there (might have to look hard to find it, as I've not been yet) where there is a nice rock garden. Ric also wanted to see some rocks, so we'll give him some rocks! Sliders shouldn't be necessary and there used to be a bypass. We'll double check how things look from there and we'll make the right decision. This road then goes up to another ridge from which there are some more awesome views before dropping onto the Georgia Pass road.

Here's a link to some of Scott Yoder's pictures of this section.

Now, I think that should fill up most of the day, if not exceed it. We'll play it by ear and take our time. On Sunday, we can either finish these up or continue on . . .

. . . On Sunday, I propose we take the highest road in the state, Mt. Bross (14,172'). I've not been there and would really like to. It's just off of Hoosier Pass, south of Breckenridge. Hopefully, traffic will be at a minimum. All these cover most of the area trails. We could possibly do Mosquito Pass or Argentine Pass as well, time permitting. We'll see.

Hopefully, that sounds good to the rest of you. I have a map I can put up tomorrow that will have each trail marked just to get a feel for where we'll be for those who may not have ventured into this area before.

Some more of Scott's pictures.

Here's some of Matt Hinkley's pictures from last year's run.

Here's Mike Brown's pictures.

Regards,
Darren

Darren,

Thanks for the info; sounds like a good set of trails to run. I did Mt. Bross two weeks ago and it was great. Was out there by myself after a group of us tried to hike it but were stopped by bad weather. Lots of old mining buildings and some active mines are still up there. There's one spot where you have to go around a fuel tank that's bordering the road; gets a little tight there but otherwise the road is fine. Just be careful as there'll be a lot of hikers trying to bag the summit, especially in the morning. I'll send you some pics from when I went up there so you can see what I'm talking about.

I'll make sure to have my running boards off for this one. I can't do the overnight since Leslie wants to do the shopping thing on Sunday.

I'm still hearing the siren call of the supercharger, though...

Regional map of trails.

Topo of the main area trails.

Rich, I'd love to see some pictures from Bross. I don't believe I've seen any from there, and certainly not any along the road. Have you been up Lincoln at all?

Wow! It sounds like Darren has a heck of a run setup for you guys. I'm glad Ric's getting such a good Colorado tour.

Darren,
I noticed that the map on my webshots pre-run link to shows the rock garden section up Missouri Gulch. I was looking for that map last night for you, but thought I deleted it.

Darren,

Haven't been up Lincoln yet, didn't know it could be driven. I'll get you the pics I have of Bross via email tonight.

Question Labor Day Weekend

Denver Gang - Wish I could make it up this weekend for the "Grand tour" Darren is setting up but unfortunately the pay check calls, BUT I do have the pleasure of a Labor Day day off and am planning on trying Schofield pass. Any suggestions, takers, or naysayers?

And oh yeah, this would be my first post for all those who were accosting my at CO4RJ about putting one on!

Ah, Schofield :

As I said, I'm probably game. Alan is also trying to get a CO4ROC run in which is posted at the bottom of this page for the following weekend. We would have plenty of time to hit Schofield then as well. But if the Labor Day weekend works best for you (Cade), then we'll shoot for that.

I was thinking about heading out Saturday morning and back on Monday. I've got the long weekend and felt I better use it. It will take a little while to get out there, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to do some of the trails in that area.

I'm quickly turning into a Colorado 4x4 trails trailbagger! Oh don't sniker....I know you all have the book too!

I've also been looking at the South St Vrain trail and others in that area. The last time I did that one it took a significant bite out of my (unlifted) frame and scared me off of the tail that loops back (can't think of the name right now) and I would like to go back and teach them who's boss.

Either way, I'll be wheelin that weekend, since most of the others in near future will be work related.

And Darren, here's what Mosquito looked like on the return from CO4RJ, seems you had better weather than we did.

You still can't figure out how to post pictures, huh?!

Actually, I forgot that Labor Day weekend is next weekend already. I just learned last night that my custom spacers have been finished and have scheduled installation of them with Andy ("Red Chili's") next Saturday. Immediately after I leave his place, I'm finally getting my wheels put on. They've been collecting dust for way too long and I need to get that taken care of while I can.

Enough of my gibberish though. Basically, I can meet you out there somewhere on that Saturday night or later. We'll figure something out.

Darren, don't make fun of those who can't post pics in their messages, as I haven't mastered that elusive skill either!

I think I'm out for this weekend as I want to get the 'charger on my truck but let me know about next weekend as I could possibly meet up with you guys for a day run. That way I can test the charger out on trail!
