denver area wheelers

Hey Dozer,
Welcome to Toyota and to the forum!
I saw in your profile that the folks at Slee directed you here. Did you have anything done at their shop?
You'll have to post a picture of your 'Runner.
As for a wheelin' trip, things have been pretty slow of late for the locals. There are a few trails that remain open during the winter. Go ahead and suggest something and we'll see who we can recruit.
A few of us went on a Castle Gulch (Lefthand Canyon area) night run a month ago and it was a blast. It's a nice, rocky trail that I hadn't heard of prior to that. I'm not sure how much, if any, snow it gets, but I definitely want to run that one again some time. Scott and Mike, you hearing this?!

Thanks for the welcome, Darren!
I am open to suggestions. I was up in the slaughterhouse gulch vicinity yesterday, but it was my first time up there and i was solo, and not too sure about which way to run the loop. I did go up stump hill to the top of the ridge but turned back before dropping into the gulch. It was a little icy and didn't want to drop down into that valley solo and not knowing what to expect. I did hike down a ways though and the going was pretty good...
I think conditions will be pretty good, at least until the next snow.
I know some of you ran slaughterhouse a couple weeks ago, though... Maybe somthing south facing in clear creek county?
I went to the guys at Slee for some advice and they ended up putting on my lift for me.

Welcome to the forum. I was on the Slaughterhouse run a few weeks ago, went up with Alan (HaveBlue) and some others. Good idea on not going solo, you could get stuck in there w/o some help to get out. I made the run in my stick '01 with running boards so its not too bad. Something in Clear Creek would be good, I'm up for a run before the next snow sets in, and I can even go during the week since I'm between gigs!

North Empire is always fun, probably some snow. Don't know if spring creek is still feasible (ain't been on it).
What about somewhere in the south platte? I know that area for climbing, mt. biking and rock hounding but not so much for wheelin'. What about the rampart? There probably isn't much snow at all down there.
( I'd give slaughterhouse a go, too. that trail looked pretty fun from what i hiked of it).

Haveblue,
How much "dragging" did you do on slaghterhouse? I have talked to a couple people who have done it with stock rigs w/o mentioning any undercaraige damage, but as I said, I ain't been on it.
As far as weekday runs, I'd have to schedule it for next week, otherwise i'd like to get out either friday or sat this week. What about longwater or hacket? (ain't been on them neither) How deep are those creek crossings this time of year? I don't have my breater on yet...

Slughterhouse is a moderate trail. There is some off-camber stuff ocassionally. It's a fun trail to kick around on. No spectacular views or anything.
Rich (rwmorrisonjr) negotiated the trail like a champ and came out with his running boards unscathed

Easy there, Ric! No need to give him false hopes!
Yeah Dozer, I'll go with ya somewhere. If you still think Slaughterhouse might be fine with the existing snow, we could do that, I suppose.
And if you're still open to suggestions, there was a trail mentioned in one of the local boards in the Tarryall Mountains that is open year-round, that I'd like to try at some point, though I forget the name of it. I'll have to do some searching. I think it was rated a 4 or 6.
In regards to Hackett and Longwater, they have been closed, and will be, until further notice.
Any preference on a meeting time? Note that I'm not a morning person by any stretch, but I could make an exception.
