Just thought I'd throw in my 2¢.

I might join you guys. Though don't hold the party if I don't show.

Trails in the area also include Argentine Pass, Spring Creek, and Fall River Road. However, they are all most likely impassable due to snow. Spring Creek will kick your butt and be dangerous if it's wet. Argentine Pass is easy for the first 4.5 miles. The last 1.5 miles is narrow and will be dangerous with snow. The first 4.5 miles could be negotiated with a winch and plenty of experience. Fall River road is fun. When it's dry, you don't need a winch. You don't even need a locker. If it's snowed over, you'll need chains and/or a winch. About 6 years ago, I took my 92 up there only to be stopped at the end of the paved road by a 7' wall of snow. The year before, I took my Chevy Silverado up. The trail had been plowed, but 3-6' walls of snow on each side were almost too much for the full-size. As is was, my old POS succumbed to altitued rather than snow. :pat:

Sounds like we have a great group going, 11:00 in Idaho Springs sounds good so we miss the crowds that are going skiing. I'll see you there, work travel permitting.

Sorry that toy283 and jake can't go, that's too bad, I hope you can guys can get your trucks up and running soon again.

I really hope you guys (have blue and rwmorrison) can make it! Loved to see you guys again.

So the people that still need to chime in are:

-4runner4life
-Dozer
-DSP
(I'll PM if I don't hear anything by saturday)

Otherwise the headcount is currently:
-NRM plus another taco (2 ppl total)
-Scubasteve (2 ppl in truck)
-Me (pwt) (2 ppl in truck
-Rwmorrisionjr (maybe) (1?)
-Haveblue (maybe) (1?)

So 6, to 8 people total, with 6 trucks. The plan is Idaho Springs' mcdonalds at 11.

Anyone know the names of the trails yet? Anyone know the condition of the trails? I hope those of us with sock trucks can pass through them.

Also, depending on how my exhaust install goes, would anyone be willing to take a sound sample for corey's muffler page while we're there? I don't have any digi-cameras. I also don't want to take up space on your camera if you want to take pics on the trip.

that sounds like fun. i'm in longmont. i only have a stocker so i'll have to do EASY stuff (plus i only have michelin ltx's on there right now - goodyear mt/r's are coming this spring). unfortunately my schedule isn't too flexible, so don't consider me when doing the scheduling. if the day works for me, i'd love to go though!

edit: ok i read the rest of the thread now. i probably won't be able to come this time, but if you want to do lefthand later this spring, that'd be great!

Just let us know mike!

Doesn't sound like dinner is in the plans anymore. Maybe we will decide on it later that day.

Anyone know the conditions of the trails? Is there somewhere we can call to find out? That's two relatively large snow storms in 2 weeks. I wouldn't want everyone to make the trip down there just to have all the trails impassable.

If they are impassable, would you guys still want to meet, maybe go out to the trail head, get some group pics, and grab some food instead?

I'll be ticked if the snow plays havoc with my plans again, just had a party last night, only one person showed up, because I went and picked them up. BUt I don't want anyone in danger either, and I don't want people getting stuck/breaking out on these trails this weekend because of the snow either, its supposed to be a fun easy weekend.

FYI, The Weather Channel is predicting snow again for Wednesday-Thursday here:

http://www.weather.com/weather/local...ocalUndeclared

We may have to reconsider our plans due to the trails being closed, possibly doing something like Plays suggested.

Well, I am still up for meeting you guys, so I think if we can't wheel, we should have some lunch that day. Keep it in idaho springs though, since everyone seems cool with meeting there.

With the amount of snow we've had I think it'll be quite a while before the trails are melted down enough to make for easy going.

There are easy trails up there so we should still give it a try. Good chance to practice safe recovery. My taires arent good but I do fine in 6 inches of snow. Packed snow and ice are a little different but we should be able to at least mess around up there. The trail i wanna try is called Yankee Hill its a moderate but there are PLENTY of roads up there that would be fun in the snow. As long as it doesnt snow on Saturday I think we will be fine.

Plays_with_toys: Lets meet at Aurora Mall at 9:30 sound good?

Well, if this storm is as big as they are saying it is, I don't think we're going to be able to wheel. 10-16" of snow might just get us stockers stuck.

Scuba, how about we meet at the aurora mall, in that abandoned parking lot just north of the United Artists theatre. It is right next to the entrance to the mall, and is just rotted with potholes, never any cars there. It'll be an easy spot to find eachother in.

Hey Everyone,
Just saw that you guys might be doing a run this weekend. Don't know what the conditions will be like since this storm has rolled in, but so far at my house (above central city on the peak to peak highway) the high country has only seen a few inches, nothing major. Like ScubaSteve said, it would be good practice digging rigs out of the snow, using tow straps, and winches!

How many people do we officially have going as of right now?

Is the plan still to meet at Mc'Ds in Idaho Springs? If we want a good place to eat afterwords, I have a friend that own Paco's right in Idaho Springs that has awesome mexican food!

The Yankee Hill area looked OK yesterday, but has since recieved about 4-5 inches (10:00 am wedns). We'll just have to see what happens...

If it dumps (>10") I'll prob end up going 'boarding instead. Ill still try to get up there today or tomorrow to check out the conditions first hand...

One thing that's a need to know, who all has recovery equipment/ CB's?

I have neither, but so long as several of us have the necessities, it should be ok. Also, what all should we bring, for those that know what they're doing?

I planned on bringing some shovels, water, some snacks. Do I need to bring wrenches/ratchets/other tools? Kitty litter? anything like that? Thanks!

I have a winch on the front of my runner. I just went and got a new recovery strap after breaking my last one. I've also got a tow hitch receiver shackle for people that don't have any mounted to their vehicles.

As far as what to bring, a good portable shovel would be useful, plenty of warm clothes (maybe even a change of clothes in case we get real messy!) and plenty of beverages/snacks.

I wouldn't worry too much about tools. If it gets to that point, I live close enough to Idaho Springs that we could always hop over to my house and grab whatever we needed.

Hopefully we won't be doing anything that requires chains, but those are usually only needed when you don't have a bunch of people to PUSH!bigok:

Dozer,
How close to Saturday do you think you'd be able to get a look at the conditions up there?

I'll be passing thru Clear Creek the next few days and will try to scope the trail once the snow stops
