Calling all Canadians...Excursion planning needs input.
Planning on taking the runner up to the great north. I need some input on some camping corrdinates. I have a week off (not nearly enough time) coming up and want to plan an excursion into Canada. Coming from Seattle, so only a couple hours to the border, but then where? Some light off road would be great, not to much as I will be fully loaded.
This there still a lot of weather happening in July?
I have seen some great photos from the northeast territories. Can't wait. Input greatly appreciated.
Also a great excuse to get some new equip for the runner.

Another thought, does anyone know about gun laws (crossing the border)? Particualrly for having a rifle for protection from bears or other such wildlife.

Now as for your first question you may want to try the Cariboo area, around Williams Lake or 100 Mile House. Lots of camping and lakes up there. Maybe pick up a Backroads Map Book of the area, lots of logging roads to explore.

The cariboo area is right inside BC past the border, right? SOunds like it would be a nice spot. I've been up there before, but am starting to crave more of a wilderness than WA can provide.
I might have to do more research, but I thought that visitors could bring non restricted rifles for personal protection against wildlife in remote areas of Canada, as long as the customs officer was satisfied that the circumstances warranted the firearm being imported. Now I don't think that the Cariboo area is considered to be remote or that the chances of hooking up with a bear are slim, but I was just curious.
So it's not like down here that you can go out in the toulies and squeeze off a few rounds for fun.

But then what would a Canadian know about importing stuff across the border, we just buy what we need here

That's no problem, no shortage of people doing that. The hard part is getting the gun past customs.

I know there have been more strict regs coming into the US with firearms since 9-11. But I don't think I have evre heard of invading canadians, but then again...hehe.
I think if you had the proper licenses and whatever other forms, crossing the border should be no prob.
So, what is the weather like around July/ Aug up there?

Hard to help with that first post... depends on how long you are planning and how far you are willing. Weather is the same as in Seattle, you don't drive over peoples igloos in July as soon as you cross the border.
If you're REALLY planning a trip, I can be your guide to Northern BC, NWT, and Yukon. Not sure if you plan on coming this far though.
