Luke, Luke, watch out for the dark side, it will consume you...

"Oh but Obiwan, don't knock it 'till you have cruised the dunes of Tatooine with a solid axle."

Looks good Tom! I bet you can't wait to get it on.

Thanks Corey! Yeah, I can't wait to start the cutting and grinding, but that will be in the future sometime. I'd like to have another DD before I fire up the cutting torch!

I'll be posting updates....

jackson- Yikes! no way it will be on for fall colors, unfortunatly. I'm just hoping to get my rear locker installed by then! This is just the first step in many....

Matt - I'll be taking pics, hopefully ones that most people haven't seen. I'll also be trying to do a write up as I go, with little facts and whatnot that I haven't seen elsewhere. There are a lot of writeups, but they don't all answer my questions, so hopefully I can find the answers, incase others want to know the same thing.

And I'll be taking my time for sure! Don't want to mess this project up...

Where you getting the kit (I assume you are doing the knuckle seals and trunion bearings) I recently did my son's 85 front axle, stealing the parts off my Landcruiser front that I was rebuilding for a disk conversion. They both used the same kit. (1-79 & up solid axle)

Cool Cruisers of Texas has this kit on sale for $104
http://store.yahoo.com/coolfj40/axelrebuildkit.html

IF YOU ORDER FROM THEM, MAKE SURE THEY HAVE THE PART IN STOCK!! (that means call to place the order....some on the POR board have not been told they are backordered and wait, and wait)

JT outfitters has it for $99 ****BEST BUY****
http://jtoutfitters.zoovy.com/product/SBKL
Or the super kit with wheel brgs, socket, and grease for $200
http://jtoutfitters.zoovy.com/product/SUPERSBKL1

SOR sells Knuckle kit too, but $150
http://www.sor.com/sor/cat080b.tam?xax=7787 (bottom of page)

Flame on!

David

David - thanks for the links.

I ordered a super knucle kit from JT Outfitters and it got here this weekend. The problem is the wheel bearings are too big for the knucle... I will call them up tonight and see if my order got switched with someone.

I'll say this again. What a messy job!

Tom
