What was the name of that sand dune hill?

I think it was: Blow Sand Hill, Is that right?
Steve, how did you like Blow Sands? Were there people driving on it at night? At Thanksgiving time, it's a zoo. Quite a spectacle. Did you drive up and down it? I did last November and it was no problem.

How was the Calcite Mine trail?

I want a trip report! Did you guys make it to Coyote Canyon? Was it a really long day? Did anyone try The Squeeze?? Give me details!!!!

Glad you guys had fun. I got stuck in San Diego, and ended up at a soot-filled Qualcomm stadium for Sunday night.

I ended up taking the 57 north to the 10W. Made it home to PHX no problem. I will post some pics, it looked like the end of the world in San Diego. Crazy stuff!

Looks like I punched in the incorrect cordinates....I imput them as degrees rather than decimal...ie-N33*15.115' W116*16.782' - anyway those cordinates took me to a dump outside of Borrego Springs!! I figured that you guys were either at the Ranger station location or Holmes camp..both had showers and such- I was keying up the CB on 4 but no one heard me..ANYWAY...the wife and I took a run to La Jolla and had a great time in a hotel right on the beach (She was in heaven) Sunday we just barley made it out via the 8 and scooted home the same way we drove in...sure was scary seeing the sun blood red and all the ash falling on our heads! -
Glad you all had a good time- and how do I convert decimal cord. to degrees??

Dude, you had a great weekend because that statement is money in the bank! Feel free to collect the next time you need to mod your truck!

Hey Dave, I think you did a good job leading, you had the most experience in the area.
Right after you left Sat night, I was regretting not going to the Slot. I figured it was packed because Blosand was dead. Of course I was already on my 3rd round of strong Waboritas so maybe I made a good decision.
The only body damage I got was when Steve was spotting me, but he hooked me up with the skid so it's ok.

Marc showed up late Sat night, so he missed most of the trail rides, he wants to go again soon.

no bashing from me dave. i had a great time. that trail was lots of fun. once i get back and my trucks built a little more, maybe we can try that line at the end of the trail that went up to the left through all the rocks. probably the best trail i've ever been on. bet it gets interesting during the rain.

first night here in charleston, already miss it out there

sorry to hear about that coordinates thing. that sucks. i think you can change the format (on my gamin etrex vista) by going into the settings menu. pretty easy if i remember right.

Degree's Minute's Second's- 360 Degrees in a full arc, 60 minutes in a Degree, 60 Seconds in a degree (freakin' archaic measurement)

so, if you have 122°, 42', 12", that works out too:

122.702 decimal deg. (42/60 = 0.7) + (12/600 = 0.02)

so, to get close in decimal to DMS, multiply the decimal value by 60

122.702 to DMS: 122 + (.702*60 = 42.12) or 122° 42' 12"

later

Fear is my hero. That Truckhaven Trail was a pleasant surprise. The wheeling out there is quite different than Arizona.

So I am bummed I missed the fun stuff. All I got to do is fail going up Blow Sand Hill, and Rob and I had to turn around on a well known trail on Sunday because it was washed out.

Lets plan another trip for late Nov or early Dec.

Hey you got to lock your hubs for about 20 mins

On Tues I went out on some of the trails behind all the suburbs of Santee to see the extent of the fire damage. We went pretty far, halfway to Poway, since it was so smoky we didn't have to worry about any cops bugging us-not that there were any around anyway.

So I didn't steer you wrong with Truckhaven, huh? Glad to hear it was good. The park service used to grade it every once in a while, so its difficulty used to vary.

Truckhaven is actually a genuine wagon trail from the 1800's.

What was it like? I'm still waiting for a trip report. Did anyone make it up the hill at The Slot?

Actually, we didn't do the historic Truckhaven trail, that one is really easy. We did one of the many spurs around the Truckhaven rocks area. Tight switchbacks and tight rocky climbs. I still want pics of Lance's passenger side, I can't believe no one took any. No one is gonna want to park by him in a parking lot. His truck looks like some road rage maniac drives it.

Lol Actually after washing my 4runner it doesn't look that bad after all. Just some cladding damage, that's all. Definitely shows alot of scratches and scrapes though and the sliders does look very used!!

Let's just say I'm very happy I have those cladding instead of ˟˟˟˟ metal.

I'm certain that after the lift, I won't be struggling as much as I did back at that trail.

But in the end, I definitely had a blast! It was definitely fun!
