I'll be helping out at the Plaster City race this Saturday but I don't think I'll be able to join ya. I'm not sure when the race gets over, but I have lots to do afterwards.

Quote: if i was you...LOL...i would go out fish creek, down to ocotillo wells, then around the east side of blowsand, and up to borrego springs. that is a fun route.
Mike
if I understood you right this would be fish creek wash east to split mountain road to 78 west to blow sand canyon north to hills of the moon wash west to borrego sink wash west to borrego springs, using this map - http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/638/files/ABDSPmap.pdf
right?

if so this will be my plan c! thanks Mike!!!

too bad, but in case you change your mind post it up or look for my silver taco somewhere at the pits

I know race will be 4 laps 26 miles each and it starts at 8:00 am so I would think it will be over sometime before 12 or so - just my guess though

If you are going to Borrego Springs, you can't pass up Coyote Canyon....that is way more fun than Rodriguez or Oriflamme. Go from there up through Ranchita and Santa Ysabel back to SD.

I'll definitely have to drive that route sometime in the future but not this weekend cause I still plan to come back to SD by about 2-3pm on Sunday to attend my friends' bbq. I think this would be too long and perhaps even plan c might be too long, but it is definitely good to have alternative plans to have more freedom to decide on the spot!

well, I guess it is a good thing I could not find anybody to go with me cause my truck broke for the first time in 90000 miles this Saturday and had to be towed back to SD on a trailer by my good friends.
On friday night when we got out to the desert I noticed that my steering rack had gotten a lot more worn out and was making loud clunking noises. This led to a decision that probably going out on my own for a 24 hour 4wheeling adventure might not be a good idea - don't want to beat up the steering rack to a point where it stops working at all and all the power steering fluid leaks out and the pump gets fried. Next day after watching and helping out at the race (FUD 200) as we were driving back on the highway to the freeway my rear wheel bearing seized up , started dragging, and spitting out diff fluid at the wheel. Since no replacement was available (nor was I sure how to do it) my truck had to be towed back to SD on a u-haul trailer by one of my friends' dad - which was very nice of him and saved me a ton of money.

when I fix my truck I am sure I'll try to do this run again and this time with other people and vehicles for sure
