That's a good I will ask him if I can take it to a mechanic to have it looked over before I buy it if I do and ya I thought that was weird to it says must sell ASAP but he isn't willing to move on the price at all. If I'm going to pay close to 4000 grand for something with that many miles on everything else then I would definatly want it to get checked out

 

There is a 85 that I went and looked at today and it had some rust problems but it's fixable and it has 177xxx miles with 15k on rebuild. It is owned by the original owners son. The top has never been off from what he could remember. Interior is all there and in good shape. And it's the same price and the guy seems more willing to wheel and deal

 

Buying the cheapest is not always the best value. Not to say throwing money at something will garuantee a better buy, but... I bought a $2000-ish 88 4Runner because I wouldn't come of $6500 for a show stopper--exactly what I wanted with a lift and basically a full resto--clean, custom, done right. But $6500?!? No way.

I have since changed EVERYTHING in my 4runner. Rebuild the engine? Totally understandable. But had to replace the block, head, cam, TPS, starter, alternator, steering box... honestly, the list goes on too long and I'm not done replacing stuff.

So guess how much I spent? Yeah, I should have bought that $6500 truck--it would have been a bargain and a time-saver.

I am always leary of a job being done right as has been stated above, but it costs money to keep a 25+ year old truck on the road and I understand people wanting to get some of it back.

So if there is enough, new, quality parts on the truck, that you can prove are on there. And the truck runs, drives and works as it should, maybe that price isn't so crazy.

And then again, maybe it is--you gotta be careful!

The way I see it is you can 1) buy a $2000-ish truck (going rate here in AZ) and drive it as-is which will not be perfect. 2) You can buy that $2K truck and dump money into it making it right, or 3) spend more on something that has had a lot of work done and let someone else take the loss--IF you can make sure the money was well spent and the stuff was done right (I'm not too good at that, honestly).

 

Hmm for some reason I was thinking it was an '85. I don't care what kind of shape its in if its '86 or later, $2500 tops.

Ya it's the cleanest one in my area in Washington and Oregon that I found may be cheaper in other parts of te country but it's hard to find a stock one that hasn't been modified or wheeled to death I mean there isn't one thing on the truck that's missing down to the top trim on the inside and ya I am picking it up tomorrow night

All I can really add to this. Is go with your gut... If 3.5k is what you feel comfortable with. Stick with it. If it has to sell "ASAP" then he'll come down...

I got my '88 4Runner for 1.4k. Needed a little work, but well worth it. Its all original, motor, tranny, drive terrain, ect.. These trucks where built to last. And mine has lasted. Runs good as new. I love it...

now this is what toyota should cost, just bought an 84 ext cab for 1000 bucks bad paint but no rust and body is pretty straight, rebuilt tranny and tcase and motor has been rebuilt at one point
