... Recently I started up my 89 3.0 4x4 and she started up just fine...I shifted into reverse(automatic) and she jerked backward a little bit then the shut off. I started her up again just fine... then I skipped reverse and shifted her down to Drive, she jumped forward a bit and then shut of......what gives?????

 

Check your intake air boot for a split that opens up when put into gear

 

I removed the intake from the throttle body(the hose broke, it was old) so are u talking about the piece that runs from the intake?
