Last night on the way home, my turn signals stopped working.
Pulled in checked all the fuses & bulbs. I pulled a few fuses & put 'em back in.
As my faded luck would have it started to pour.
Got back into car to check to see if our signals worked. Nothing - BUT the hazards still work. Problem #1
I looked a few things up on-line & it seemed that I covered & checked most of what I found.
Frustrated I started my Old rig to head home.
Enter Problem # 2
I can't get out of park. My automatic transmission, won't engage.
I noticed the small plastic cover next to the gear shift lever, popped it off & saw a button - I was able to get my 4Runner into gear & I headed home.
So I'm stuck with to problems:
Problem #1: My turn signals stopped working
Problem #2: My transmission won't go into gear without the aid of the "little uncover, switch"
What might be the issue? Is it an isolated issue for each problem or is there something like a bad Brake switch that could cause both issues?

 

Think they are two separate issues.

For #1, be good to trace where you can and see for any shorted turn signal wiring. Could also be poor ground somewhere. Front and back or..? If you had a wiring diagram and a multimeter, it can be easier to troubleshoot.

For #2, agree with checking the brake pedal over by the pushrod switch. Could be stuck in whatever position or loose and not engaging with the pedal.
