Hey fellas, just wanted to say whats up and I might be getting an FJ soon. I currently have a 97 4Runner and an 04 350Z that I might trading in this coming week if everything goes to plan.

I have read the consumer reviews but I just wanted to see how you (the people) like them. Pros-cons.

 

every one ive ever followed on the trails greatly exceeded my wildest expectations! ive seen people jump basically stock vehicles with much less ill-effect than i had.

Hey, what's with the shifter on the auto? It's sooo long, is they any alternative?

 

I may be joining the FJ side as well. After selling my 98 runner for a 2006 Tundra DC 4x4, I'm finding it to be too big. So I spotted the 08 trail teams special edition FJ and I am seriously considering it.

For those of you who own FJ's already I have a couple of questions for you.

How long did it take to get used to the HUGE blind spot?

How loud is the rig on the freeway?

Do you find the all plastic interior to be a benefit or hinderance?

Do it. You won't regret it.

Blind spot issue is no big deal for me.

Properly adjusted mirrors and you're golden.

Freeway driving is quiet, I'm only turning ~2200 rpms cruising at 65-70.

The plastic is great in my opinion - very easy to clean and keep looking sharp. It scars easily though - my cargo area is looking worse for wear - but no more so than what you're probably used to.

Get the all weather mats - they offer really great protection.

I love the driver's space the FJ offers. Great lateral freedom, nice wider seats and gobs of headroom.

When I get into the 02 4runner, I feel as if I need to contort myself.

The trade off for the spacious front row is at the expense of the middle row - it's tight. I have two carseats in and my 11 month old kicks the back of my seat.

Since I travel alone 99.5% of the time, this isn't a big issue although my wife will tell you otherwise.

 

Well I have decidied to go ahead a get one. I sold my 4runner to my father in law and I'm taking my other car to carmax to see what they offer me. I think I am going with the silver.

 

I'm picking it up on Mon. Black cherry pearl, auto, conv. pack, upgrade pack 1. Looking to pick up the roof rack and TRD exhaust same day. Looking forward to it.

When I test drove one, I was surprised at how smallish the truck felt from the back of the front seats to the cargo area. My 3rd gen, while crampier up front (not that it matters as I'm a tiny guy), is definitely roomier for everything else (kids + cargo).

As sad as it is, I will probably not get one. I drove an automatic and hated it, and I'm not getting a full-time 4wd vehicle (totally pointless).

The only viable options are a US-sourced Tacoma (the configuration I want doesn't exist here) or an Xterra (bleh).

 

Yes, my old '91 had much more room in the rear than the FJ, but I would not trade this rig for anything on the market right now.

While I use to be a stick guy, the older I get the more I appreciate the auto, especially in stop and go traffic.

 

and too think you could have bought mine with winch bumper and winch and lift kit and tires too.
