FJ Windshield

Is anyone expericing windshield cracking easily. I know a rock is a rock and not good for them and ya can't follow a rock truck either. I haven't made the first payment yet and got two chips. The first one I fixed with a kit. The second is cracking all the way across. The whatever hit it was not even a hard hit. My 1986 Chevy truck and 1986 Isuzu Trooper still have the originals and been hit many more times thru the years. I been driving for 42 years so don't give me driving lessons. I know the angle of the windshield is straight up too. Even when repairing the first crack the windshield seems very soft compared to my Highlander and other make vehicles. Does PPG or Safelite make a better one ?

This is a known snafu for some since the glass sits up almost straight.

I have had my new rig for a month now, and have not encountered it, and I have been behind a few rock trucks on purpose to test the windshield.

Could be our rocks are softer here in the Pacific Northwest from all the rain we get

Interesting because I saw a nasty crack on a new FJ at the dealership I just bought mine from. A dealer had been driving it and said he didn't even hear the noise from whatever hit it but the split was about a foot across.

An option would be to have a custome made bulletproof windshield. I spoke to safelite, and they can have one made for $1200. While insurance won't cover it, it still makes sence if you have to have 0 deductable just to get windshield coverage. In a couple years you would save more than the $1200 investment.

Currently I am with Geico, and comp is $500 deductable.
But my package covers windows for either $50 or $100, pretty darn good.

My windshield does have a few years on it and absolutely no cracks but it does have a few rock shots but no cracks eminating from them.
The company that made it is called XYG so I might look the brand up for a replacement in spring or I might go with a PPG windshield which i had in my Eclipse for almost 5 years and it did have some pits but no cracks.

My mom is on her 2nd windshield on her '99 Runner and in two years it's got several cracks.

FWIW this is a known issue with the 4th gen. T4R as well.

This means that they're using thinner glass to cut both cost and weight.

$1200 is what it cost to replace the stock windshield anyways. a guy from work had to replace his a week after he got it becasue of some vandals in his neighborhood. cost $1200. i am so glad i have a zero deductible. i heard a rock hit my windsheild the other day and as far as i have seen , no chip or cracks , i must have been lucky.

$1200 is from dealer. After market is $500. For $1200 you could get bulletproof, amd never have to worry again.

xyg is garbage glass we wont even install it at the shop I work at... PPG and Lof pilkington make 99% of the oem glass out there....so imo they are best
