I'm pretty sure they just googled "4 wheel drive" and had some layman read about the vehicles and whichever sounded most impressive was selected. What the hell is the Range Rover Sport doing up there- it has huge wheels clad in low-profile tires... wtf. The Toyota Sequoia has been neutered by IRS and low ground clearance yet is still rated better than the live rear axle, locker-equipped 2010 4Runner.
The Lexus GX and 4Runner are the same vehicles, and considering the 4Runner just got a redesign and is now better offroad than its predecessor, why does it rank lower than its identical twin? The gas IFS Ram 1500 was chosen over the diesel and solid front axle 3500 (lets face it, if weight mattered in these tests, half the trucks listed wouldn't be there. The Jeep Rubicon isn't there and pretty obviously should be in the top 2 at least- lockers, solid axles, reasonably stout drivetrain etc. The Mercedes Galandelwagen (G-wagon) definitely should be in there as well as the Ford Raptor and the Nissan Xterra.
What useless writing.
