Exhaust?

Im getting ready to throw a few extra horses into the ol FJ with the TRD Cold Air Intake and an exhaust. Im having trouble deciding wether to pony up a liltle more money and just get the TRD Exhaust since it is specialy designed for the Fj or just go to a muffler shop and get a flowmaster put on. What do you guys think/suggest? TNX

Whatever you decide. I always say do it right the first time or you'll regret it. What about aftermarket systems? Do any of these guys "Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Gibson, Dynomax, DougThorley, yadayada " ..offer stainless systems yet? Most these companies that offer systems for the older rigs do a very good job at design and DYNO testing everything.

I had the stock can replaced with a Magnaflow 11226 can and could not be happier.

Great sound both cruising and when you romp on it.

You already have 2.5" tubing back there, howbeit it is not mandrel bent, but I am happy with the results.

I actually recorded about 5 clips coming into work this morning of it, I may try to stitch them up tonight and post back.

silverdust, that magnaflow sounds great. Does anyone have a sound clip of the TRD exhaust on the fj?

Mine sounds the same as Silvers, nice and low.

Now I shot these 4 vids below (used Movie Maker to stitch them into one) a little after 3 am this morning on my way into work.

I shot them at the highest quality setting on my new Sony H9 digital, they turned out pretty clear for full screen viewing.

It would sound a lot better with someone on the outside shooting the vids as I do a driveby.

I think you will be happy with the 11226.

Thanks, the vid does not really do the Magnaflow justice though, as I had the windows down all the way and the wind comes into the camera too.

Plus it is kind of hard to drive and shoot the cam at the same time.

Yes, those gauges light up the whole dash.
I did not see that for a whole two days after getting my rig, and it looked awesome when I went into work in the morning.

the magnaflow is being installed Thursday morning. Also, im having them bend me a custom tailpipe so that it tucks up higher for more clearance as well as so that it wont be noticable from the back. Cant wait i feel like a little kid waiting for X-Mas to come

just for the record, magnaflow does make catback system for the fj. It's been out almost since day one.

They even have a sound clip videos of it.

Yes they do make a catback, but for many times the $$$ that you can do by just replacing the can with the one I went with.

The FJs already come with 2.50" tubing.

Surf, looking forward to seeing some pics of the way the pipe is tucked up.

Gotcha, but the factory system is not mandrel bent nor is it stainless steel.

Being a Magnaflow dealer I can tell you first hand that you would be surprised at what you could purchase the system for if you ask the right dealer. Magnaflow has a MAP pricing agreement to all of their dealers where they can not advertise below a certain dollar amount... and in most cases the map pricing is a substantial amount over what it can really be sold at.

Magnaflow 11226 Muffler has been installed and sounds great. A nice low humm with rumble when u step on it. For those of you who have wondered about the in cab noise, its not bad at all, id say it is just a tad lauder then the stock muffler with wondows rolled up (unless you step on it ofcoarse). Ill try and post some pics in a few

this is exactly what i wanted and i think the shop did a great job, very proffesional. Final price with tax came out to 140$ which i think is very competitive.

Looks good, you got a good deal indeed.
The local shop I used I think it came to $180, but that was last year I would have to look in my receipts.

I knew you would like it, the 11226 has a nice sound, but not to loud in the cab.
Wait until you goose or nail it on the freeway to pass a slow merger if you are in the right lane.
