Aftermarket racks for FJC
Bare with me now, I am crappy with MS Paint
Got this picture form the off roading trip the FJ Team went on over the weekend.
http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=86889
It looks like the stock rack is held on my 6 points.
I bet it is only a matter of time before Yakima and other makers come up with mounts.
I envision Yakima making mounts that will go where I drew the 4 circles.
Then a crossbar can go through each mount as I drew it, then a rack like I presently have, the Yakima Load Warrior could then be mounted to the crossbars.
I hope Yakima works on this, as I would like to use my current rack since it is all setup to carry a Hi-Lift, shovel, axe, and jerry can.

PS, someone added the Yakima Load Warrior to the factory FJ rack.

I do not want to do it that way, you are using two racks, plus it sits up to high IMHO.

To do what you want I think you would need a bigger basket than the loadwarrior to reach between those two point (mega warrior or load warrior extension).
My bet is Yakima will either only make adaptors to put the rack on to the existing rack or make adaptors for the regular over the door opening (ie a more mid mounted ability like you had on your 2nd gen)
I think the basket mounted upon the rack looks fine, but I not sure you need a basket at all though with the current rack. Can't you just move your hijack and jerry can mounts on to the oem rack?

I have the extension for the LW.
I shot off Yakima an email the other day to this link too, waiting to hear back from them on this.
They could very well make mounts to mount up to the stock rack points as seen in this PDF file.
I have special mounts for some of that stuff, it will only fit the Load Warrior.
I have around $500 now into that rack, I would hate to junk it.
And sitting it on top of the stock rack would make me very high in the air.

Looking at the PDF it seems like it shouldn't be to hard to make something to screw on to the stock points. If Yakima does not do it, I wonder how difficult it would be to adaptor to screw in and use control towers http://www.yakima.com/Product.aspx?id=163 to attach to it. But then again I don't know how much it is going to cost you if you don't have the right towers and whether it is worth it. Good luck

Nice. I saw those rack mount covers and was hoping they would turn out something like this. Saved that pdf to my drive. I wonder if they'll come out with a shorty rack, or other versions. This definitely leaves it open to mods...

Got a response!
Email in today to my inbox
Hello Corey, thank you for your inquiry about Yakima Products, Inc!
Our marvelous Yakima Fit Team is currently racking their brains out, assessing a rack fit for brand new FJ Cruiser. Generally, this means that we will have a fit for your vehicle sometime in the near future, but not always. Sometimes we find that there is no way to fit your vehicle; in this case, we will upgrade this note to a "No Fit" status. Otherwise, we will list what towers, clips, and bars will work for you. Please be patient, though, there are a lot of new vehicles out there on the road today for our hard working team to check out! I will log that you would like a rack for your car. That will help show that there is a demand for it.
Please check www.yakima.com → ‘Choose My Rack’ periodically to see if the fit information for your vehicle is available. Once we have a fit, the ‘Choose My Rack’ section will immediately reflect that information.
If you have any other questions, please contact Customer Service at 888-925-4621 7am to 5pm Pacific Time, Monday through Friday. If you reply to this email, please include all previous correspondence.
Thank you,
Yakima Support

I am trying to get away from running two racks
If the stock FJ rack was only crossbars, then I could mount my Load Warrior to it.
I saw some pics on another forum of a guy who put the same rack I own on top of the FJ rack, not my cup of tea.

since yer on the topic of racks and attachments - i was wondering if anyone has mounted their hi-lift jack to the side of the fjc stock rack. was hoping there were some mounting attachments so i could mount my shovel and hi-lift jack to the side of the rack and then load up my rack with gear and a spider net thrown on top of that.

I read over on another forum that the FJ Trail Teams that take these rigs out on the runs right now are using the stock racks with bolt on mounts for the stuff.
I believe they bought the parts at 4WD Parts or some name like that.
The best thing to do is email any of the Trail Team members and find out about the parts you need.
I see at least 2 of the trail leaders posting all the time over on Mud's FJC forum.
There are some pics on the 'Net clearly showing the Hi-Lift and shovels attached to the stock rack.
I am still undecided as to either buy the factory rack after I get my FJ, or wait for Yakima to make mounts for the cross bars that will bolt to the FJs factory holes on top.

ps- i put my loadwarrior with extension on my stock rack last night , i like the way it looks and it will give me a place to mount lights , with a custom made light bracket , since i dont like the yakima bracket , makes the lights stick up way too high.
but they will be mounted to the front of my lw basket.

airrikk17, you did see how I turned down the stock Yakima light brackets to make them not stick up like Micky's ears?
Makes a big difference in the way I turned the brackets down.
Lets see some pics of your Load Warrior on top.

Do not look for any support from Yakima for at least another six months
Hello Corey, thank you for your inquiry about Yakima Products, Inc!
We need to test every vehicle as it comes out with our racks to make sure that the fit is safe. Our Fit Team has not gotten an opportunity to test that vehicle. We cannot test anything until one becomes available from a dealership and then it has to go through rigorous testing to be sure it is a safe fit. Many times, once we’ve gone through all of the testing we can use one of our existing tower systems and call out the fit. That usually just takes a month or so after we’ve seen it. If we cannot use an existing system, we need to develop something especially for it and that does take at least 6 months to go through the development process.
Thank you,
Yakima Support

Another issue is the angle of the roof in the back. If you put the basket on yakima bars with regular towers (on to whather adapter they come up with) in the back half it will be at an odd angle. You might have to put the basket more mid roof/ over the doors to get it level.

I called Yakima last week. Sales rep wasn't sure when they'd be coming out with towers, but did feel it likely that they were probably going to start with adapters for the existing racks as most of the first rounds of the FJ are coming from the dealers with the factory rack on. He did note as well that the more calls/inquiries they get, the more likely they are to step it up, so ask all your relatives to give them a call.

i ended up buying the yakima light brackets for the load warrior and put my lights on there like corey did on his 4runner, i think ill end up putting two more up there also , but on a custom bracket that ill make , i bought 5 inch round , black casing lights that i like the looks off , not too big not too small, ill get a pic soon. the weathers been to crappy to take her out and get a pic of. i jsut need the stock switch now. i saw a site that corey posted that had the off road light bar . i dont particualrly like it make the fj look like a liberty way too much .
