HI,

My wife is looking at buying a 2007 FJ, she is curious about the gas mileage they get....so maybe you guys could let me know how yours do on the road and in town.

I think they get like 16 city and around 20 highway.

 

That sounds about right! Hey Jriebe I would think twice if your wife is going to hall kids around. Its not the easiest SUV to get in and out of the back seats. If you want MPG get a small SUV ie Rav4,

 

FJ Cruiser is a nice vehicle, but like others stated if you are going to haul kids, the FJ is not the vehicle for you because of the back seat. I would highly recommend a 4Runner SR5. You can get a really good interest rate/rebate right now on them, they get almost idendical fuel mileage to the FJ or better and have more room. Or even a Highlander is a good option.

 

Here are my MPG results over the last 11 months.

Please note that I add comments in there too such as mod tires getting added, the lift going on, all which can effect your MPG.

Mine is going back up again, getting around 19 MPG combined city/freeway, not bad for such a heavy beast and an engine that digs being throttled sometimes

 

My mileage seems to have improved slightly as I'm approaching 10k miles, but I'm still only averaging around 14 city and maybe 17 highway and that's with quick shifting- if I want to have fun and let the RPMs ride, it gets even worse.

I do have to disagree with the others on the kid thing- I've found the FJ to be a quite competent tyke-schlepper. They're both in car seats, so I'm not sure if that makes things better or worse, but I find it very easy to get them in and out and both sides are easily within collar-grabbing range ;-)

Granted, my last vehicle was a Wrangler, so anything with more than 2 doors seems kid friendly to me, but I really don't think it's that bad.

 

get a subaru forester easier to get in and out of and i get 25-28mpg (with the turbo motor) i love mine

I do not granny this either, I rather enjoy the sound of the Magnaflow muffler when it kicks in when you goose it, and I drive this rig a lot more spirited than the old one.

It is just to much darn fun to feel the power.

 

i would agree, a FJ would not be a best choice for mall crawling. a RAV4 or highlander would be a good choice is oen is concerned with gas prices, or how easy it is to get in/out of the back seat. if you ever take it off road, ie needing a locker for mall crawling or moving kids around town and never to the top of a mountain??? a RAV4 orHighlander ould be a much better choice unless you plan ontaking th FJ off road very often (as that is what it was design for, and not shopping bags or a bunch of kids) but it is all personal choice i guess. for mileage obviously highlander hybrid and not so tight 3rd row for more kids

 

I am averaging about 300 miles to the 16 gallons, or 18.75 mpg. I have not gotten as low as 17 and the reports of it getting 14, I just don't get. I drive this rig hard and fast for the most part and should be getting just about the worst it can deliver. On long hauls it is easily 21 mpg.

I love the fact that the Wrangler made the list of lesbian vehicles... lol...

FOR SALE!? Bummer... I have the All Pro bumpers on front and back, but those are about the lightest available. Is gas milage the only reason your selling? If so, buy a cheap bike and use that as much as possible.

 

im not selling because of fuel milage , i need to buy as one ton truck to haul a trailer, and i cant afford both rigs , if i could i would definitly keep my fj , i love it.

i have the fab fours front bumper and its heavy and thick , but it provides great protection.

Sure, but you don't get the milage or performance without running the (requested by manufacturer) premium fuel.
