Smittybuilt. They work as rock sliders as they protect the body plus I have a step. I have had the full weight of the truck on them, they are welded on. However the Highlift tabs get caught sometimes and I don't have the clearance of rock sliders. Check out some of the pics in my build thread I think there is a pic of the pass. side dented in pretty good.

I would not trust them to use as a lift point with a high lift since the diameter would push the lift pint out so close to the end of the jack.
I would suggest to your friend he check out http://www.stubbswelding.com/page2.html
He could probably come up with something
Your friend is not gonna find much in the way of nerf bars for a truck that been out of limited production for 15 years

EDIT: Stubbswelding sliders are kickass, If I ever trash mine im getting those.
I have tabs with pin holes that lock the jack into place so it wont slide out, they catch on everything but they work, I just have to hammer them open every time haha. I dont know what size the tube was on yours but mine are very sturdy. Been beaten on rocks and to baja exposed to lots of salt water, 13 years later no chance of rusting through.
Not ignoring the fact that rock sliders are in no doubt much better. Just saying they are not the only way
just make sure they wrap all the way around, have beefy mounting tabs, and a nice thick tube. Then reinforce the mounts.
Just looked, choices are slim but google came up with go rhino, never heard of them.

He is not going to off road the truck it's his work truck , and yes he want to actually use them put full weight on them like jump up and down on them ( he is a turkey I know) not put a hi lift under them, I'll try to talk him into some bolt on solders .

No, mine look like Zpd's above, although they don't have that little tab on them. They were already starting to rust when I got the truck, so not sure how it happened, but they are really corroded around the plastic insert. I never did like the looks of chrome steps. My front and rear bumpers are chrome and I don't think the black steps stand out.

I bought a set of "Wildcat Flash" bars, which were bolt-ons. No rust or problems after 2-3 years of use, but I'm driving a pavement princess and touch the paint up on the bars as needed. The website I ordered them from is off-line now (http://www.sowderdistributing.com/) but they were cheap...about $160 with shipping. They also had SS bars for $225 at the time.
