T-100 New Owner says Hi

Hello all!

Been an owner of a T-100 for about a month now, I took a long shot and bought a 1996 3.4 Auto with the CEL on.

The tires were shot and the rims looked like hell, it had a silly alarm on it that went off every time someone opened the doors or hood, whether you used the key or not.

The guy told me he took it to Autozone and they told him the CEL was because of an ignition problem and he changed the wires, but it still ran like crap so he told me it was the plugs.
I think he must have been talking to someone in Autozone that didn't speak Spanish, and this guy didn't understand much English, because I got home and used my OBD2 meter and it gave me codes 0225 and 0330. I bet the Autozone guy was saying knock sensor and pointing at the intake manifold and my Spanish friend was hearing spark plugs.

Both my knock sensors are bad? Sounds like a wire issue I says to myself. I read that the connector for them was passenger front side, grey, brown, and black wire.

I fished around under the top lip of the timing cover (I think thats what it's called) found half a connector with a black, brown, and gray wire that looked like it was recently plugged in, found the other half, reset the code and lo and behold, I now consider my self the owner of a proper truck.

A fresh set of tires later (still need an alignment), and took the stupid chrome flares off of the fenders, fixed the most annoying rattle* (under the front passenger bench seat), fixed the inbred alarm (it still works, don't get any funny ideas, lol), some 0000 steel wool on the rims and I have a awesome truck, I think.

Think I got a good deal for $3200 with 133,000 on it? I do

* I haven't fixed the rattle. I thought I did, but no, it's still there.

A bit better:

Thanks for all the help guys, I hope to have this sweet truck for a long, long time.

That T-100 looks great! For that price, its a steal; especially since it appears to be in such good shape. If I didn't have two Toys already, I'd easily pay 7K + for that around here in that condition. Are those CHROME Toyota rims??! What are your plans with your new truck? (Please tell me you are keeping it stock)

P.S. I chuckled when I noticed the subtle photo-shopping.

Niiiiice truck. You definitely got a good deal on it, IMO. T100s are one of my favorite trucks, I just wish I could find one when I need a vehicle!

I, too, like the photoshopping. haha.

Haha! 3 of those rims are chrome, one is still the factory grey, you can see it in the pics, they were all black and looked really bad when I got it.

My immediate plans are to keep it until one of us dies. I believe I can get a half a million miles + more if I play my cards right, and I respect the value of a reliable pick up after searching and test driving for so long.

I got the deal of a lifetime and plan to make this my last truck ever. I also just bought a 2000 Celica and plan on making that my last car ever.

The biggest mod in this truck's future is tinted front windows!

**Edit** Thanks everyone for the 'shop comments on the sign, I was laughing the whole time I was doing that, thinking to myself all the better things I could and should be doing instead!

nice truck...I see a ton of t-100's running around my neck of the woods...they sure seem to retain their value for 15 year old trucks...even better than mini trucks

Great deal! And most of all great truck! But I'm biased towards any T100 I know a lot of guys don't like those steel wheels, but I sure do. If my truck came with those instead of the Enkeis, and I paid the same...I still would have been just as happy. One thing to check is the transfer case fluid to make sure it's at the correct level...they leak sometimes. Again, nice truck!

I miss my old T100, and when I was back in the market for a vehicle the T100 was in the mix. even round a great condition one with 243k miles. but over all it ran and looked good.
but happen to find a 00 4runner with 117k miles for $500 more. dam I miss having a truck, but I like the runner so far.

great trucks though for sure.

Are you kidding?! $3200 for "T" with 133K on it?! Man, what a deal! I definitely would have purchased a 2nd one just for a spare for that price. I love my T, bought it from a body shop owner w/53K on it, salvage title, it was his personal truck and was like new when I got it(my avatar is the 1st pic I took of it in his drive the day I bought it). I know another guy in my county who has one even nicer than mine which he rebuilt from salvage condition, which just confirmed my believe that you cannot kill a T-Rex. Mine has the chrome waggy's on it like yours and I have not been able to bring myself to remove them. There's something about that old-school look that I like and I've gotten lots of complements about them. As far as I'm concerned the T's are tanks and since I'm a BIG guy I can spread out inside the cab with the bench seat and no center console, something I could not do in my old Tacoma. LUV bench seats!

t100 tailgate

Will any other Toyota tailgates (Tacoma, Tundra, etc.) fit a '97 Extra-Cab T100? Thanks.

and the answer is no. T100's are wider.

Back on topic.
Luv your truck!

I just picked up the same truck over the weekend. It's replacing my '95 that was rolled a few weeks ago.
It's a '97 174K on the clock. Runs great, NO RUST!
Not quite the same deal you got, but still a great price.

POS Y-tech won't let me post pic, since it is already on another part of the site.

Nice truck! I purchased mine at 153k for $3995. But everyone tells me the truck looks brand new, and its valued at $8,000.

Congrats on the truck, I plan to remove my chrome flares and replace them with the bushwacker flares.

What amazes me is these trucks pure build quality. The truck spent all of its life before i bought it in minesota, and it has ZERO rust on the body.
