HELP! Payload 1700, towing 2800 - OK?
Hi -
I am struggling with this decision and would appreciate any help.
I have a 97 T100 V6 automatic SR5 extracab with 170,000 miles on it.
We will be doing art shows requiring traveling from Maine to Ohio, Maine to Pennsylvania, Maine to Virginia, etc.. Our art is rock turned on a lathe and sculpted, so it ain't lightweight!
We'll be carrying about 1,700 lbs total payload (passengers, rock, show booth, etc.) and towing a small travel trailer which will be about 2,800 lbs loaded.
Will the T100 do this safely or should I be getting a different vehicle? If you think I should get a different vehicle, do you think a Tundra would be able to handle this?
Also, do you know what the gross combined weight rating is for my T100... I can't find this anywhere on the web.

I would think a tundra would handle it a lot better than the T100.
I would try to lighen up the truck a bit, perhaps only 800-1000 lbs of peeps and gear and move the rest to a larger trailer. The truck is going to handle better towing that it is all squatted down and towing.
Either way its a lot of weight and your gonna need to be used to towing and or operating a veichal with that much weight.
IT would be advisable to get a large aftermarket trans cooler.

get the trans cooler.. i am about to order one.. i can put 5 people in the truck, a tool box with all kinds of tools, and parts for four wheeler, and the bed is full of cloths and gasonline, with a trailer that holds 7 four wheelers.. its a heavy load but it pulls fine.. i would say i am pulling around 1 and a half tons, maybe more, maybe less

could always go with airbags, a weight distribution hitch, brake controller for the trailer brakes, def need a trans cooler, and possibly going to a 4:56 gear set. that would be the ideal set up. or, just buy the tundra v8.
but i would just recommend getting airbags, hitch and trailer brakes, and cooler. gears get expensive, but mine pulls great with the 4:56's
