Fuel gauge stuck on full

Greetings all, hope you are as stuffed with the big bird as I am. My '96 T is running great. When I gas it up I always fill it to the tippy top with non-ethanol gas. I last filled up on Wed. and have driven about 90miles since then and the gas gauge is still pegged on full. I pounded the dash a few times but no change. Pulled the gauges fuse and put it back in while the key was on, all the other gauges snapped to attention but the fuel gauge is still on full. Even when I turn the key off it doesn't fall back like the others. I have not done any work on the truck in a long time, no wiring work at all. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have not driven it since last Thurs. When I started it up early this morning the gauge moved a little below the F. So I drove it about 30 miles round trip to my church with everything on including A/C compressor(heat) and it dropped to 3/4 mark, I have 123 on the trip odo, so maybe it's working, maybe not, I don't know yet. I'm going to take it on a long trip to the city in a few days, I will keep my eye on it as I go, probably do a full fill-up on the way or back and monitor my gas mileage.

The sending unit for gas gauge is prolly little gummed up. Worst case.....pop it out...(easy peasy) and clean it up a bit so it slides up and down better.

If you search on google...you can find copies of factory service manuals in pdf form to download... I dont have links handy....but just google "toyota fsm .pdf" or something....you will find em.

That's acting about the same way mine does. Mine will say full until almost 100-130 miles on a tank, then start dropping. By 200 miles or so it usually reads half full. I just had my fuel tank out of the truck to put in a URD pump and I inspected my sender just cause I had the tank out. I didn't find anything wrong with mine.

Thanks guys, 250K, yeah, that's what mine just started doing, like yours. I drove it on a long trip to Richmond and it moved to the center, then I filled it up on the way back it it was like 14gals? I'm watching my miles/tank and am going to run it until it's almost empty then refill to the top again and see how it behaves.

Hilux, I have a genuine paperback FSM! 1st thing I bought after I got my T almost 8yrs ago.

Mine doesnt start reading half till about 150 miles and then drops drastically the rest of the 150 or so miles. Light comes on and I have 5-6 gallons left everytime. Also when I fill up it doesnt go to full when you turn it on, gotta drive for about a mile and it slowly goes up.
