Brake Problems-Please Help

Brake Problems-Please Help

So i was doing my regular check, and noticed my brakes could use some new pads. they were getting pretty low-and i would rather change them a few miles early than late. anyways..so i pulled the tires and took off the brake caliper, pulled the brake pads--and noticed my rotors were getting a few small ridges. and since i dont want my new pads to conform to a rotor that has ridges took them to get turned.
so i got my rotors turned, and got new pads. came back home-reinstalled them and took them out for a test drive. and the b rakes were musshy!!! (im sure thats spelled wrong)

so even though i knew air couldn't get into the line i bled all the brakes. several times and each time when i went out for a test drive-still mushy!!

so i pulled the tires again, checked the calipers made sure the piston was working, there was plenty of brake fluid-actually since i bled them so much its all new fluid-with no air--, master cylinder works, no leaks anywhere..
i dont know what the problem is.

please help---i'ts been 3 days and i cant figure it out. i've done almost everything

ok, so i talked to the shop that sold me the pads and did the turning--and they said that it could be faulty pads---does this even happen???

so then i called my mechanic and he says that he's 90% sure its the rotors. that it must not have ben true when they were turning them, and thats why i dont get strong braking.

are these common things that go wrong??? ive never had problems with doing the brakes. although i only do them a few times a year-not a few hundred.

thoughts???

What method did you use to bleed the brakes?

What grade of brake pads did you use?

I have generally found that the brakes do have a different feel after replacing the pads. Also, some types of pads require a short break in to work effectively. I would drive it a few days to see if that might be the case, as long as the truck stops in a decent distance.

The truck hardly stops.

if im going 30mph, and slam on the brakes. it'll take me 50 feet to stop.

if i drove this thing--in the traffic that we always have here in Orange County-i would hit someone.

as far as bleeding the brakes i went longest line to shortest--as is the correct way (as far as i'm aware).

but there was no air..and even my mechanic said there is no way i could have gotten any air in the lines.

the brake pads i got were Bendiz. Semi metallic--it was the best the stores in the area carry.

and i didn't expect a superb increase in braking power--but i got a huge decrease

I would start at the pads and go from there. If pads don't fix the problem, then I would look at the rotors.

If you cant stop in time,hit a pontiac.their real soft amd you wont hurt your truck much.worked for me!

Nice solution...
When you do figure out the prob do tell us...
My brakes feel the same way...
Granted I can stop...
But after I got it back from the Rear axel and rear brake work they feel mushy...
I feel I have to put the pedal down furture...
I want that stiff feel again...
More confidence when driving...

i couldnt tell you.. i do all the work on my truck had my rotors trued recently and they seem to work fine.. i would try a different brand of brake pads..

its the brake pads, i used bendix on the rear of my integra, thier break in time is long, and they seem really musshy at first, give it time and it will pass, atleast it did for me, if not, then you have a serious issue.

Did you reuse the old shims on the back of the pads? if so , did they have any rust on them? I have had this on a 03 or 04 4runner and it ended up being the shims. the rust causes the caliper to travel farther to compress the rust and corrosion before it puts pressure on the pads themselves. if they have any rust, corrrosion, paint chipping etc. on them, take them out and try it again. if you get a nice hard pedal, you need a shim kit avaliable from any toyota dealer. good luck

Before I took mine in for the rear axel work they were tight...
Now there loose...
Can't be the pads...
The lines are clear or air...
Is there some other line or something to actually tighten the feel?

The bendix pads aint the greatest, hawk pads my friends are the best imho.
