97 t100 4x4 3.4 liter starting problems

I just replaced the motor in my truck, and when I tryed turning it over my starter just zinged. It was trying to engage because after I tryed cranking the truck I turned the crank and could hear the bendix disengage. So I replaced the starter and battery and still have the same problem. I have checked all the grounds and they seem to be ok. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you for your help.

It's a auto. And the gear ring was in great shape when I put it back together. It's almost like the starter isn't getting enough power.

Ok here is a update of what I did this afternoon. As I said before this is a long block that I just put in. The starter is new and when I turn it over it engages but just spins not turning the motor over. So I pulled the starter and found that the teeth are engaging the flex plate 3/4 of there depth. I thought I may have put the flex plate on backwards but now I know this is not the case. Put it back together and still does the same thing. So I ran a set of jumper cables from the battery ground straight to the starter and still the same thing. Does the starter have to be shimmed etc.??? There weren't any when it came apart. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Possible you have the wrong starter? I ordered a rebuilt tacoma/4runner starter off ebay and it is smaller than the one on my t100. Thankfully I just swapped the contacts.

I don't think so. I pulled the starter and took it to auto zone where I called myself matching it against the new one. Did I mention my old starter was doing the same thing.
