I am having starter problems with a new 5vze engine I just replaced in my truck and wonder if it could be that I put the flex plate/ring gear/ flywheel on backwards. It is a automatic trans. Does anyone have any pics or info that would give me info of what to look for? I know the starter is marring the ring gear because when I pulled the starter I could see where the starter gear was making contact 3/4 of the gear. The starter is new and it does the same thing the old one did I can hear it engage and then it just zings without turning the engine over.

 

Oh and the motor turns freely by turning the crank bolt.
