Trailer lights wiring help

I am trying to repair the trailer lights on my Toyota pickup. I had one of those Hoppie plug and play kits go bad, so I am using the existing wiring. I have the tail lights and turn signals done correctly, but where to you connect the brake lights? I tried splicing into the green and yellow wires (left, right turn) but it just back feeds the turn signals into the brake lights.

I bought a kit at NAPA. Plugs into each tail light, connect 1 ground and you are done.

If you want to do it yourself, you need to buy a converter for the brake/turns

I have a U-haul 5-wire to 4-wire adapter box in my '85 and it seems to work fine. Tapped into the rear wiring on the driver's side with one wire over to get the right hand turn signal. You'll need the box with blocking diodes to split off the signals properly. Or there are high end converters with relays built in to drive the trailer lights.

The plug-n-play replacements are actually really cheap. I guess the Toyota ones are around $100.
