Question Starting issue

I have an 86 pickup with a new motor. The problem is sometimes the truck will turn over and other times it will not and i will have to push start it and once it gets running its fine. I have replaced the batt, ignition relay, batt cables, and the starter. i have no idea what it is. No body can figure it out. can anyone help? i need to get this fixed really bad. thanks.

Same Prob.

I have a 1987 4runner new motor installed by toyota its also a auto ( so i cant push start it) that is random about starting. Somewhere in the system the power isn't making it to the starter fuses all good batt good wires all good, sad thing is i live next door to a toyota tech and he cant seem to find the prob. He worked on it checked it out top to bottom but no clue. The freaky thing about it is that one min it wont start walk away come back its startes right up after nothing been done to it, Ill start it up drive it to the store turn it off do my bus. come out nothing wait random abouts of time from 5mins to 45 mins turn the key fires right up... anybody else ever had that prob let me know.

Probably an intermittent electrical issue. Rig up a way to test the voltage a the starter solenoid and note the voltage when it starts OK and when it acts up.

If you see a difference in voltages, look upstream of the starter, like in the wiring or the start interlocks with the transmission.
