Silverstar Headlights

I have a '99 Limited and replaced my headlights with Silverstars. I've heard the reports and bought into the hype.

Frankly, I don't notice much difference. When I replaced the bulbs I cleaned the connectors with electrical contact cleaner too.

They are good bulbs, but if someone had not told me they were different bulbs, I would not have noticed.

I have the Ultrastars and compared to my mom's OEM bulbs in her '99 there is a diff when compared side by side and the light is whiter and stretches just a bit farther but they aren't drastically different but I got about 2.5 years out of my original Silverstars and was worth it to me.

They are not going to last very long either if you have not disconnected your drls'

Silverstars are great except for their service life. I have them in 3 vehicles and they lst about a year in each. One will go out and the other will follow shortly. I called Sylvania, they said the service life is about a year on a daily driver. I bought Hellas last time. I like them better than the Silverstars, but they don't last either.

My silverstars didn't last 6 months befor I lost one. I do have DRLs, so that probably didnt help.

The main reasons for short life with Silverstar bulbs is:

a) DRLs
b)When installing the bulb got finger residue/oil on the bulb (even a light sweep can cause issues;I recommend using latex gloves no matter how careful you are)
c)Starting the engine while headlamps are in the "on" position since the extra voltage surge on startup can blow a bulb especially if done all the time.

d)with people who have gone through several bulbs in a short period of time might consider you have an issue with your electrical system causing a surge or something.
