Silverstar Headlights

I have a '99 Limited and replaced my headlights with Silverstars. I've heard the reports and bought into the hype.

Frankly, I don't notice much difference. When I replaced the bulbs I cleaned the connectors with electrical contact cleaner too.

They are good bulbs, but if someone had not told me they were different bulbs, I would not have noticed.

I have the Ultrastars and compared to my mom's OEM bulbs in her '99 there is a diff when compared side by side and the light is whiter and stretches just a bit farther but they aren't drastically different but I got about 2.5 years out of my original Silverstars and was worth it to me.

Silverstars are great except for their service life. I have them in 3 vehicles and they lst about a year in each. One will go out and the other will follow shortly. I called Sylvania, they said the service life is about a year on a daily driver. I bought Hellas last time. I like them better than the Silverstars, but they don't last either.

My silverstars didn't last 6 months befor I lost one. I do have DRLs, so that probably didnt help.

The main reasons for short life with Silverstar bulbs is:

a) DRLs
b)When installing the bulb got finger residue/oil on the bulb (even a light sweep can cause issues;I recommend using latex gloves no matter how careful you are)
c)Starting the engine while headlamps are in the "on" position since the extra voltage surge on startup can blow a bulb especially if done all the time.

d)with people who have gone through several bulbs in a short period of time might consider you have an issue with your electrical system causing a surge or something.
