A female friend has a 2000 4Runner that needs a new battery.
I am wondering if I use a plug into the lighter connected to a 12VDC battery .
It will allow all the electronic data to be saved she was saying something about special codes to program her high end sound system that her ex-husband is not sharing.
Myself I still think 8 track tapes are State of the Art. Along with AM radio.
I think this should work .
Any reason why it might not??
Other then plan bad luck!!

The last time I was at an auto parts place I remember seeing a temporary power source for that type of thing. Sorry I didn't get a name, I just looked at it long enough to read those words.
You might check into something like that.

If it's an "always on" 12V outlet, it should work, otherwise you'd have to turn the key to Acc or something.
Another option, could be to hook up a low-current battery tender/charger to the battery terminals before you take them off the battery, that way there's always a fused 12V source feeding the vehicle.

What I ended up doing and it works great.
Is I just used one of the quick connects that I use for the winch and jumper cables .
Then had it connected to another battery
Till it was all swapped around.
I need to get some pictures .
It works just fine don`t have to worry losing the stored data.
