RH turn signal randomly flashes on/off

When i was coming home from the desert last weekend. about half way home, my right hand turn signal started freaking out. It would flash on off real quick and sometimes stay on, Iit mostly only does it on right hand turns too. I was wondering what i should check for. I already checked the bulbs and connects at the bulbs front and rear... there both fine. So im thinking a frayed wire grounding out the system and rigth hands turns make it touch. what do u guys think?

alright... the right hand singal is still tripping out. It only happens when the head lights are on. on the way home today i flipped on my headlights and my volt meter jump to the middle and then went back up and when that happened i lost all eletrical power for that split second causing my cd player and stuff to reset. the flcikering happens all the time now with the lights on. Could it be a bad flasher causing this problem? I pulled the flasher is it seems fine(works perfect when my right singal doest trip out). what does a charge light relay do? I guess i have a bad wire somewhere. if you have any suggestions let me know please

Maybe this will help...?

Hey I have a old explorer and it use to give me problems similar to this but it was only right after i started my car. It turned out to be the ignition cylinder was getting loose and sloppy so when I'd start the car it would only make contact with a few of the vital contact elements. Once I replaced it everything was great. I'm not sure if this sounds like your case or not but I wanted to atleast throw it out there. Good luck man!

About a year ago my 91's right turn signal would come on and stay on whenever I would turn on the headlights. It turned out that my multifunction switch (the turn signal/headlight switch) on the steering column was dirty. It was causing the switch to short to the turn signal when I applied headlights, after I cleaned it out it hasn't done it since. Yours might just be dirty or has gone bad but I would check it out.

I was thinking about that switch too. Thanks for the suggestion!! Im goning to go clean it out today. Mine does stay on steady sometimes, sometimes it flickers so I think it prob is that assembly on the column is dirty or worn because i started lookign at my connections and wires and they all look to be in great condition for how old they are.

I had the same problem in my 89 runner.
put a new ignition switch in because the power outages scared me.
didn't fix the problem.
It simply was a very bad ground in the engine compartment.
The increased current required to run the lights caused the ground to cut out.
Check those grounds!!!! Wouldn't hurt to clean the connections in all the combo switches in your controls though.

well the split second power loss is more then likely my very loose connections to the neg side of the battery because the connection is too big for the terminal. now i just gotta go start cleaning and check connections everywhere.

I have the same exact problem you described in your first post.

I replaced the multi switch knob for all of the lights, but it did not work.

Have you been able to fix this problem???

Red face

Old thread most likely you won`t hear back.

Is it your turn signal bulb flashing or just the arrow in the dash??

Most likely another circuit grounding back through the bulb.

TBKing, i sure hope that we can figure this out together. I have been fighting this issue for about 2 years now. I have traced my issue to the ignition switch i believe, but i have not been able to resolve it. Mine issue is the left signal staying on and not working when the lights are on. tach and volt meter both go dead as well. can't seem to shake the issue. sometimes it goes away for weeks, then BAM back to piss me off for another few months.

I am going to spray my multi switch with compressed air and are if that helps, 'll also order a new ignition switch once i find the part number
