quick 4runner rear window question
I have read many of the threads, and will try pulling this apart and cleaning contacts and such. but had a specific question about my situation.
the rear window worked wonderfully in my 4runner ever since I started driving it a couple weeks ago. Yesterday, I installed a new radio. it was another Toyota one (CD player from a Prius
), so it plugged right into the plugs that were already there. but things have been modified many times over the years, so I'm not sure I'm getting good connections there.
anyway, I drove to town in the morning with the rear window down. rolled it back up when I got home. shortly after that, I installed the new radio, put the dash back together, and drove back into town, and the rear window would not roll back down. I played with the lock button, to no avail.
The only things I touched since it worked last was the trim piece around the radio, the 2 plugs on the radio, the plug for the power antenna switch, plug for Overdrive light (it's an auto....), and cigarette lighter. I know I got all these plugged back in, and they all work as well as they did before (overdrive light didn't work before the project either...).
I have not tried the key switch (didn't even realize it did that until a few minutes ago.....cool!!). nor have I pulled anything apart to diagnose. and I don't think I'll have time to until sunday or monday. The point: I thought I'd ask if anyone knew of any wiring for that switch that runs through the dash near the radio that I might have disturbed. or if it's just coincidence that it failed now.

not sure if your first gens are similar but you may think you got the window all the way back up but it is not. Verify by testing the rear defrost and rear wiper. If those are also now non functional your window is not truly all the way up.
Go to the back and use the key switch to raise the window-maybe like a fingernail, or put all the way down and all the way back up.
Voila-you have reset it to full closed and all should now operate fine.
If not related then I have to think of fuse, perhaps something got grounded out while doing your radio swap.

thought I'd update this thread....for future reference.
turned out to be something dumb, of course. I had had the topper off not long before then, and had not plugged in the rear wiper. as I was messing around with things to install the radio, I bumped the wiper switch to "on", which disabled the window, but because the wiper wasn't plugged in, it didn't move, and I didn't notice.
all is well now.
