After doing my H.I.D. retrofit my 12V battery is too big and pushes on my passenger side headlight. Anyway, my question is this... I'm thinking of running dual inline 6V batteries. My main reason is because there really isn't enough room to relocate my current battery anywhere else. So, I figure, if I have an Optima 6v in the stock battery tray and one mounted closer to the cab, in theory it should work fine,right? As long as I wire it: chassis ground to battery 1's negative -> battery 1's positive to battery 2's negative -> and then have battery 2's positive to starter and fuse box (stock routing). Does this make sense?

Or should I route wires for each battery seperately to the fuse box and starter?

 

you would have to hook them in series, thats -

ground to negative 1 (battery 1), positive 1 to negative 2. positive 2 to starter fuses, etc. this will increase your voltage (giving you 12 volts) but keep the same amperage of one battery.

if you hooked them in parallel, that would be negative1 to negative2 to ground, and then positive 1 to positive 2 to ground, that would only give you 6 volts, but twice the amps.

 

couldn't you just get a slightly smaller battery?

 

Maybe a battery relocation kit? Put it in the back or something...

Yeah, that's exactly what I had planned. I just want to make sure they'll be charged evenly. What gauge wire should I use? Like 2ga. stranded, right?

Don't forget to check the amperage rating on your 6V batteries. They may not be sufficient to handle the job.

That should be pretty cool. Lots of extra weight though. I think you could move the battery tray a little for a lot les hassle and $$$. Move one 12v battery to the back of the rig??

If there is no room to relocate where are you going to put the second 6v??

And where did find a 6v optima, I was just on their site and couldnt find one.

 

They only have the red top 6v's. Also, I heard with having at battery too far away from the starter kind of causes some cold start up problems...

 

As long as you upgrade the wiring to the starter you shouldnt have a problem.

Its still a big battery, just half as wide. I still think it would be easiest to move the battery aft about one inch.

What is so much bigger with this coversion? Isnt the washer fluid resivour in between the battey and the headlight?
