WARNING!!! reagarding putting 100's in a Hella500, or any other, and for high wattages in general

just realized this today, for some reason didn't think of it before

I put 100w bulbs in my 55w Hella 500's, well, its been balls cold around here, and I've been driving around a bit in the blizzard like blowing cold weather with all the lights on, (yeah they dont help much in whiteout, but in backwoods it still helps) anyway, both glass lenses have a split in them... these are behind the clear lexan guards too so it was def the heat... poop

edit: and yes, I noticed a considerable difference in output between 55 and 100 back when I switched... have 8 ga going to relay and other stuff, and then upgraded but not sure what I used gauge from there on

 

Then You should pony up and buy some LighForces! They are all Lexan and will not crack because there is no glass what so ever. This is a good example why the solid plastic design is better than the glass. I have cracked many of lenses with the same damn issue man nothing would make me as mad, get out of the truck and WTF!!!.

I ran some Hella 500s with 100w bulbs on my old Jeep.
They were ok.

havent read the previous 3 pages, so ill just post about the lights i have.

my KC daylighters (100w a piece) are so incredably bright!!!! with them mounted on my surco and the sunroof open, the interior is lighted up better than daylight!!! i am just so amazed at how bright they are.

sadly i havent been offroading at night much with them, but im sure ill use them much more come summer time when im off camping and the like.

fwiw, im thinking of putting the hella 500's on my grill guard where my kc's used to be. something more approbate for long open deserted roads. and some amber fog lights and the fog does get bad here at times.

 

i got a set of piaa star white bulbs rated at 55w and they put out 85w there freaking awesome in my hella 500s and they dont seem to get really hot

 

I run 8 130lights on my 4runner and a 1600 watt stereo as long as I don't play rap or that boom wappawappa shi* its does fine with a stock alt. As for the light output all I know for sure is they turn night into day. A friend described it like this one night driving to his house as he stood in the road waiting for me to show up " I thought that I had just seen the second coming of christ"

 

The link is dead but I will assmue they are yep HID and for most of us the HID offroad lights just prove to be that Offroad. I dont imagine you can switch them on and off like a regular light, I know the ballast takes a second or so to build up or what not, similar to that of a car. Like in the Baja 500 or 1000 when the lights are on they leave em on none of this high beam low beam crap.
