No dash lights and need help identifying dash switch - 1993 Toyota Pickup (Hilux)
I have imported a 93 Toyota Hilux from South America
My issue is that the dash lights that light up the speedometer, fuel gauge, etc are not working. Also the lights that light up the temperature controls are also not working. Other dash lights such as the light that indicates the parking brake is on and the blinker lights in the dash do work.
My past Toyotas have had a dimmer switch that you rotate to dim or brigthten the dash lights but this truck just has a push/pull on off type switch that I am not sure is related to the dash lights or not and nothing happens when I push or pull it.
See photo for picture of switch and location. It is missing the knob but I can pull it with pliers
Any ideas where I should start as far as getting my dash lights to work and also what the switch that I am referring to is for?
Odd, that is the factory spot for the dimmer knob……something may have been changed by the previous PO.
possible that is in fact the dimmer switch but it is broke?? If it is the dimmer switch being able to pull it out isn’t a good thing…
I would pop that panel off and see what’s going on back there, a pic of the switch your pulling on would be cool and we can verify if it’s the dimmer knob.
Here are some more photos. There are 2 wires running to the switch. One of the wires goes to a small fuse box in the engine bay and it is receiving 12 volts to the switch
The other wire runs along the frame towards the back of the truck but the wire is cut before it reaches the rear tires
Here is the dimmer style knob that I imagine should be there, the lights are on the stalk but if I disconnect this dimmer I have no dash lights, have you taken a good look see behind there to see if anything looks changed, cut, re routed, wires dangling?
