Need help hooking up switch for power inverter
I got a 750W Vector power inverter for Christmas, and am going to hardwire it in. I would like to put a switch on the dash for powering it up whenever I want. My problem is that it could possibly draw up to 125 amps (1500W Surge). That eliminates using a relay, as most aren't rated that high.
Now I don't know anything about them, but would a starter solenoid work for this? A starter solenoid operates on pretty much the same principle as a relay, right (low-power activates high-power)? Could a garden tractor, motorcycle or snowmobile starter solenoid be used?

Take a look in the Tech sectoin for the solenoid I used for the Ramsey Wireless Remote I put on my winch.
The solenoid is made by Warn, and it works great.
The link I have to the solenoid though is bad, Warn revamped their site shortly after I wrote the article.

relay = solenoid, electronics term vs automotive term
If you really plan to use the inverter a lot, you will need a continuous duty solenoid, which a starter solenoid isn't.
An inexpensive cont duty solenoid is a Borg Warner S-55.
