Low Voltage at trailer

Low Voltage at trailer
Hey guys,
I just finished wiring my 90 4runner for a trailer. I installed the convertor and everything worked great when using the test light.
When hooked up to the trailer, I have tail lights but that's it......no signals, brake lights. The trailer was then hooked to my brothers Ram and everything worked as normal.
Next was the multimeter and upon testing the trailer hookup on the 4runner, it was reading only 5volts coming out. The truck starts fine and I don't notice the lights on the 4runner dim.
My question is has anyone has come across this before? The ground is good, so would it be a fuse?? The convertor??

Just how did you make your connections??
solder and heat shrink? or some other method??
i must say these 4 wire flat plugs are a royal pain and I never use them i just use a regular 6 pin plug as most of my trailers have brakes.
That said have you checked that your Toyota and the other vehicle are wired the same. unless you have done both you can`t be sure.
Just where are you measuring the 5volts???
What are you using for a ground ?? On most vehicles I run another ground from the battery to the frame just to be able to pick up a ground that does not need to be through the motor mount bolts or through the body into the frame.
Check the voltage before the converter and after to know if that is the problem.:jessica:

Both trucks are wired the same. They both both a 7 pin and are wired the same, by the same person.
The 5 volts was measured with a multimeter at the 7 pin. My next step was to measure before the convertor, but I wanted to see if there would be another reason aside from the convertor

A poor ground can cause a lot of problems. If the hitch ball is rusty ,try spraying it with penetrating oil or tow the trailer short distance and see if the lights start working .The trailer is trying to ground thru the hitch ball ,if the ground wires are not working.
