Lighting Mod- Pics

Hi guys.

First off, thank you guys for having this forum.
I recently bought an old 1986 short-bed-short-cab 4x4 22R... and I feel like I am going to have a LOT of questions.
I am new to trucks.. but pretty experienced with motorcycles, but I like to learn new things.

ANYWAY- I thought I would just post a little thing I did... in case anyone else is into this stuff. Maybe someone has done it.. but I did it on my bike and loved it. This time? Still undecided.

I am still playing with colors... but you guys can see the potential:

It was easy and cheap- though I think it could be cooler - I usedstuff I had on hand.
Detailed pictorial to follow.

Obviously... first you pull out the cluster.
Its pretty straightforward:

And get the speedo out (its the three screws in the middle)

Then it gets fun...

This is an 80mm halo.. it was too small and wouldnt fit around the assembly.

But THIS would

For source purposes.. it is a 140mm halo, exactly like this:
Amazon Amazon

YOu can see it is too big to fit in the housing...

But you can totally cut these. They are wired internally in little groups of three, marked by a little solder hole. SO I take the dremel to it, and it fits.

Then you run the wire out, wire it up and you are good. Just trace the leads on the back to find your wires

So- I didnt really want plain white.. but its what I had around.
I also had some GELs, that you use with stage lighting. YOu can get them at any big guitar store or stage-lighting-type joint. THese:

I free-cut a slit for the needle and a box for the odo- there is plenty of cover, so you dont need to be precise

Then just reinstall, make sure its wired, and BANG.

BE ADVISED- THE DIMMER WILL NO LONGER DIM.
Which is why I used the gel.

There is a little (a lot) of light leak around the sides, and from the top....

so I might go back in and fool around. But I wanted to see what it looks like.
It matches my Stereo now at least!
