Has anybody ever hooked up an amp and sub to the factory cd player? I've got a 2k runner, just wondering if it would work or if it is possible, just until I have the money for a new stereo. any thoughts/ ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Mike

you have to purchase an adapter because there is no RCA jax on the back off the factory CD player..

 

yeah go to your local car audio place and pick up an adapter for the rca's for like $20-$40 i just did that on my cousins jeep it worked out pretty well

 

some amplifiers come with speaker level inputs where you can splice into the wiring for the rear speakers and connect them to the amp

Basslink + an awesome old school a/d/s PH15 6 channel amp, any suggestions would be appreciated.Oh, and I'd like to be able to hook up my ipod 2 thanks, Mike

 

if you want your ipod hooked up too and you are upgrading your speakers you are better off getting an aftermarket deck with the aux input on the front...then you will have dedicated preouts as well....Much less hassle and better sound quality in the end

I just had this question last week!

I ended up getting a new head unit, with a USB plug in the front. It's pretty sweet. If you have an I-pod, spend the extra $$ for a new head unit with an i-pod plug. It will also charge the i-pod for you. Then, you can just plug the i-pod in, put it in your glove box or whatever and when you want to add more songs, disconnect it and take it home.

I tried to hook up my amp to the stock cd player. It was doable, but I just decided to go for the new head unit. If you're still set on keeping it all stock (which was my wish), I have a line out converter that I bought for the original install. It's brand new, and you can have it for $10 and S&H.

 

i did the same thing you are thinking a couple months back but it was with a lexus and it worked fine no adapters. i just pulled the deck out and wired in my amp and i had subs running great. but im sorry ive never tried on a 4runner

 

when your hooking it up you will need to connect the remote from your amp into one of your speaker wires from the hu
