Help with Kenwood deck

Help with Kenwood deck
I just replaced my 97 4runner stock cd/cassette deck with a Kenwood KDC-X493 and it sounds far worse than the stock cd player. There is almost no bass at all,there is barely an audible difference between setting the bass to 0 or to the highest setting of 8. If anyone has this head unit I would greatly appreciate any tips etc.
