Help with check engine light???
I have a '79 pickup 4x4 that had a 2002 2.4L tacoma motor installed before I bought it. came with check engine light and a few other headaches created by junkyard Scotty. Truck runs great, but I need to smog it soon for registration. Scan tool revealed check engine light was for no signal from VSS; that's because there is none. Truck was equipped with a '93 transmission and transfercase to keep front drive shaft on passenger side. VSS from '02 wiring harness was hanging over transmission when I got it and I've tried two approaches; nothing yet. Any help would be appreciated!

Might try grabbing a VSS from a mid-80s vintage pickup or 4Runner with cruise control. The VSS module is attached to the back of the speedometer where the speedo cable attaches. Might be the easiest way to add that feature. Otherwise you can add a VSS to the t-case but you would need to switch the speedometer to an electronic one from a mid-90s truck or 4Runner.
Otherwise, check with ORS and see if they have any options with their engine swap harness kits:
