Headlight switch or stalk

I have an 89 pickup. All my lights work but my lights will turn off and on when I move the switch on the end of the stalk. The part on the stalk that is stationary I can move around a little bit and will cause the headlights to turn on and off while on. Is it the stalk itself that's bad or the headlight switch behind the stalk?

Headlight switch/stalk is all one assembly. Get yourself a new (used) assembly, and you will be good to go. You can find the part number about halfway down the column where the wiring plugs together. Make 100% sure you match that part number up, as there were several options, and different wiring/plug options throughout the years.

Sorry if I worded it wrong. I know the stalk is one whole assembly but Im wondering if my problem could be just the stalk or could it be the switch that has the red and 2 white wires soldered to it?

Truck and 4Runner should have the same headlight switch. Differences are usually in Cruise/No Cruise and Wiper types

Red face

If you bought the correct one it should just plug right into the plug .

Where you should have unplugged your other one .

That seemed it worked just like it should .

The switch turns them on parking lights then head lights

the lever switches between high and low and if you pull it the other way flashes the high beams
