Has anyone smoked there own tailights
I am painting everything on my 4runner silk black and was wondering if anyone has smoked there own lenses. I did my streetbike with regular flat black paint and it works good but i dont know if i am ready to attempt my 4runner.

maybe put some clear packaging tape over the lenses, so it's not permanent, and if you make a mistake, you can peel it off, or if you keep getting pulled over, or for whatever reason you want to take it off, it will be reversable.

my friend smoked his tails on his 90 4runer but he taped off a half and half. bottom was smoked and the top was the tips of flames. looked good.
i have used duplicolor's red stained glass spray paint on a set of clears and they came out great (gave them a clear coat as well), acutely i loved the way they came out. i thought they looked way better than smoked lenses and safer (didnt hinder the shade of the brake light)

Ya my streetbike is all flat black so i decided to try to lightly paint my tailight, I sprayed it lightly with several coats of flat black then let it dry. I turned it on and it was still super bright.

I've used the vht spray tint several times. Prep good and be patient with it, it works great. It works best when you use light coats and let it dry a little between coats. I tried spraying it on thick the first time to save time and it ran screwing up the light.

after i bought all clear lenses for my 4runner, i wanted to do something about my 3rd brake light, b/c it looked out of place...so i just sanded/scuffed it up with some red scotchbrite to prep it, and then painted over with a few VERY LIGHT coats of gloss black paint...don't use the cheap $1 a can stuff...and then when that dried, i hit it with about 3 or 4 coats of clear, and it now blends in quite well with the trucks black paint, yet still lights up good at night...and will light up even more when i get a higher wattage bulb in there...and sorry guys, no pics, as i'm at college and i left my camera at home last weekend...
