Like the title says...

There's a small light bulb/fuse that goes into the switch on the side of it.

This is for a 1992 Toyota 4Runner.

I called the stealership and they said they wanted $79 for it :O (if the guy even found the right one )

Anyone know where else to find one of these??? Or how I can possibly modify this one to work again???

It would help to know what it looks like as I am not sure what you are talking about but it sees to me you could put a regular bulb in then fuse it with an external fuse a little down the line. Again, not sure if that would work in this particular application but the logic should be right.

That's not a fuse... it's just a lightbulb. It being burnt out would not affect the operation of the window. If the window is not working, then you have another problem. The dealership should be able to get you that bulb, but it won't be $79 (5 or 6 dollars at the most, I would think). Maybe they are quoting you a replacement switch (I wouldn't be surprised if that switch is $79 at the dealer). You can get those bulbs aftermarket too.

The window works fine. Would the bulb being blown effect the switch not working???

No... the bulb is for illumination only. The window switch contacts are fed from a different power supply than the light bulb. You say the window works but not with that switch (so you can operate the window with the tailgate key switch, but when you try the console switch, it doesn't work?)

Two things come to mind. Your ignition has to be "ON" for that switch to run the window (I'm sure you know that), and the rear window lock button must not be pressed. So if your switch actually works (you can test for continuity with a multimeter), then the next thing I would check is that you have continuity through your rear window lock switch.

If all that checks out, you could have a problem with your rear window/wiper control relay.

Yes, I know the ignition has to be on in order for the console switch to work, but it didn't!

Today as I was buttoning everything back up, the switch mysteriously started working again

Oh well! Just glad it works!

Thanks for the help!

Good to hear it's working. Maybe it was the lock button giving you problems. Mine was finicky, and I sometimes had to lock-unlock-lock-unlock it before it would work. I put a new (well... from a junkyard) lock switch in and it worked good as new.

i just bought a 95 yota in which none of the window switches. I popped off switch covers on all doors and cleaned rocker contacts for each window including rear all are now working fine. Electrical contact cleaner, and a q-tip
