Dead Reverse Lights?

Bulbs are good, fuse is good, wiring is good, backup sensor is good - but no lights when I put the transmission in reverse. I'm stumped on this one. I've checked every component in the system individually, and everything checks out. If I pull the sensor out of the transmission and press it by hand, the lights come on fine. Put the sensor in the transmission - no lights. Is there something inside the transmission that might be wonky? The truck is tough to put in reverse sometimes, but I don't figure that has anything to do with the sensor.

I bought a new sensor when I first noticed the lights were dead, so I'm half wondering if it's the wrong sensor, but it's OEM and the part number matched for my VIN. Plus, the harness plugs right in as a perfect match, and threads into the transmission perfectly.

'92 V6 pickup, manual trans.

How do the new and old one compare .

It is not a sensor just a switch

If for some reason it is wrong and to short it might not work .

Not unknown for parts to be boxed wrong

Call it a sensor, switch, gizmo, whatever.

I'm an idiot. Pulled it back off to play and noticed the crush washer from the old one was stuck to the transmission housing. Popped that off and everything works fine now.
