Just noticed my 87 4x4 pickup dlx has a back door light? Is this the original cluster for the truck?

 

It seems like the cluster is out of a 4Runner... My 88 4Runner SR5 cluster has a back door light that comes on when the tailgate is unlocked.

 

I bet toyota just used the same cluster, I'm pretty sure mine is original. I just checked the owners manual and it says it means the tailgate is down. But the manual is for 4runner and 4x4.... Can anyone confirm that their pickup has this warning light on the cluster?

My '87 4x4 deluxe (no tac) has a back door light on the cluster. As it's not a 4runner, it doesn't light up. Has anyone hooked this up to their pickup tailgate? Anyone else noticed this on their pickup?

 

Yeah there are only a handfull of overlays.

My 94 MT has a cruise, Back door, A/t temp, ECT Pwr, O/D Off, Antilock brake, and 4wd, All unused.

Sorry dropzone, I would've deleted if possible. Just wondering if anyone has hooked the back door light up on their pickup. Would be nice to know if I'm drivin away with the tailgate down.

 

Just noticed mine had a back door light slot to. It didnt have a bulb in it though. Wonder if my truck is wired for it? Only one way to find out!

 

The one gen cluster 84-88 was the same between trucks and runners. If you look closely there are also idiot lights for the water separator and a other diesel eng. goodies on the SR5 [tach] clusters... If you want to make the light work for a truck tailgate it's easy enough you just need to install a switch from a runner tailgate and wire it up... consult the elec. diagram to locate the correct pin to add to the cluster harness.
