That's correct, that is the stock Toyota OEM hold down bracket and I used the included Optima spacer under the battery. Cables reach fine. Good to go

Did not have to move my ground wire. I thought it was a pretty good deal. It looks like yours is not being held correctly by the bracket?

 

Calg3, you were pretty lucky to find a 34R. I've waited for two months and none to be found in Socal. The funny thing is the 34R is cheaper than the 34/78 version; they just haven't made any. I ended up w/ the 34/78 and had to have my battery terminals lengthened.

 

i dont have the spacer.. so i put that rubber piece in. sits just fine!

 

Yep, the guy had to order it but it came in after waiting a day or two. He claims he sells more Optima batteries than anybody around here

seriously? not even sears would get it shipped to them for less tahn $150

so i bought it online and did it all myself.

 

Well, that is what he told me. I was surprised when I walked in because I was expecting him to quote me some ridiculous price but when he told me $119 out the door I ordered it on the spot.

 

Optima is made by Johnson Controls, which also makes a lot of the EverStart batteries. The one I just put in my atv (Everstart) is made by JC. Listed in the link below under Johnson Controls -> Optima, is an EverStart Ultra (SLI Spiral Cell AGM). I'm wondering if it is in fact the same as the Optima Red...

i just got mine in today, i am waiting on the spacer to make it perfact, i got a polyeuithane (sp?) spacer in there holding it for now

 

hmm...I have a orange top (reverse post red top). I didnt need to move any cables around? just put the spacer and bolted it back in. Thats in my 96... $109 at local advanced auto. Just picked up 2 yellow tops for $129. Still figuring out a dual setup I like for my 85 trail rig 4runner.

well yea i assume its cause i didnt have a spacer to push it up high enough.

 

why does everyone go with red tops... the yellow seems more suitable cause its deep cycle and would work a lot better for lights and accessories?

 

Here's my set up after I fixed a few problems today.


I had to cut the arc out of the plywood spacer for the new terminal clamp because the stock clamp only made contact along the bottom!


You can see the dark line along the bottom where it did this to the battery terminal.


I could wiggle it even after I tightened as tight as it would go, so my rig would barely start on many occasions.

The straw that broke my procrastinating back was this morning when I walked out to leave for an important function and it barely turned over
I ended up missing the function :cry:
