alternator/ battery

Hi I'm having/ had a problem a with my alternator and charging system. I have a 90 yota pickup 22re.

My first alternator died from what I believe was power steering fluid poisoning(lol). I started it up one morning and the charging light was on and the alternator was emitting an electronics burning smell. I checked the battery and it sure enough was draining. I checked the grounds, belt, fuses and battery connections. I pulled the alternator went to Autozone and picked up a new one.

I installed the new one and it still did not work and also emitted a burning odor. This got my head hurting as I thought perhaps I was dealing with some wire problems or something unseen and I did not want to deal with that. I really thought something was wrong with the regulator light.

I pulled that alternator and installed a used one from a 80 something toyota camper with a 22r/22re. It charges the battery and does not emit any smell. BUT the charge light does not even come on at all with it even when I first turn it on. What happened? Is there a fuse somewhere that I blew for the charge light? Does this alternator not have a charge light?
