hi guys, i have a 90 runner with the 3.o. it is not starting now but if i unplug the cinection on the airbox(mass air flow sensor?) it will start right up but then die. if it is plugged in it will just crank over and over. need help, what can i do?

Likely the fuel pump contact in the AFM. Test it out:

And try the fuel pump test jumper to see if that makes it run:

none of the pics show my engine and i'm not to familiar with wiring on trucks.


the starting problem stated a few days ago when once ina while it wouldn't start. but if i opened up the airbox and gave it a squirt of ether it fired up after a few cranks. then today nothing at all. and as i said, if i unplug the air sensor ont eh breather box it starts up and dies right away.
i just bought this runner and need to fix it asap.
any other help would be greatly apreciated.

 

The above two links I provided would apply, at least try the fuel pump test jumper (you have the diagnostics box and would jumper the FP and B terminals:

The AFM should be similar, but a Factory Service Manual would have the details for your engine:

so before i tried the other things mentioned, i pulled the little black cover off the mafs adn had a torn foil strip. so i soddered it back on. what kind of silicone do i use to seal the lid again?

got it all back together and running as good as new. man, saudering those little floi strips is a pain in the ass.
